Iron-overloaded β-thalassaemia major (BTM) children have high risk of delayed sexual/physical maturation, liver/heart diseases and reduced life expectancy. The lifelong need to use iron chelators, their unpleasant administration, side effects and lack of awareness regarding iron overload risks all hamper BTM patient compliance to iron chelators. This study evaluated the impact of clinical pharmacist-provided services on the outcome of iron-overloaded BTM children.

A total of 50 pediatric patients with ITP (20 newly diagnosed, 30 chronic) and 50 healthy controls were investigated via PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis for cytokine gene polymorphism. Compared with controls, all patients showed a higher frequency of IL-6-174 CC [P = 0.

Orosomucoid is an acute-phase serum protein that is upregulated in urine samples of patients with diabetic nephropathy. We assessed serum and urinary orosomucoid levels in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes and their relation to microvascular complications and carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT). Sixty patients with type 1 diabetes were divided into 2 groups according to the presence of microvascular complications and compared with 60 healthy controls.

In addition to assess the potential role of these polymorphisms in relation to types of ITP and response to different treatment modalities.
Patients And Methods: A total of 48 pediatric patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP; 24 newly diagnosed and 24 chronic) and 35 healthy controls were investigated via polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis for multidrug resistance (MDR) 1 and killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) 2 genes.
