  • New biologics and small molecule treatments for moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis, including mirizikizumab and upadacitinib, have been approved, but there are no direct comparison studies available to guide their use.
  • Clinical trials show mixed results: ozanimod, etrasimod, and mirizikizumab have lower remission rates in patients with prior biologic experience, while upadacitinib performs similarly; however, it carries the highest risk of adverse events.
  • Experts suggest using ozanimod or etrasimod for mild-to-moderate cases and recommending mirizikizumab for moderate-to-severe cases, with a careful consideration of patient history when choosing between upad

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates inconsistencies between various measures of blood sugar, particularly HbA1c, fructosamine, and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in managing diabetes in primary care.
  • Over a period of about 90 days, they assessed these measures in adults with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, finding a significant mismatch in results, particularly with HbA1c compared to fructosamine and CGM.
  • The findings suggest that relying solely on HbA1c can lead to misleading diabetes management decisions, emphasizing the need to consider multiple measures for a more accurate clinical assessment.

Unicystic ameloblastoma (UCA) refers to cystic lesions that show gross features of a jaw cyst but on histologic examination show a typical ameloblastomatous epithelium lining part of the cyst cavity, with or without luminal and/or mural tumor growth. Even though the lesion is not as aggressive as the solid ameloblastoma, an accurate histopathologic diagnosis is essential for the treatment and prognosis. This case report illustrates a case of UCA of mural variant in the anterior region of the mandible crossing the midline, which is usually an unusual site of occurrence.

Background: Complete diagnostic autopsy (CDA) is considered to be the gold-standard procedure that aids in determination of cause of death in stillbirths and neonatal deaths. However, CDA is not routinely practiced in South Asian countries due to religious beliefs, lack of expertise, and lack of resources. Minimally invasive tissue sampling (MITS) has been recommended as a less mutilating and less expensive alternative to CDA for obtaining tissues for analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • Fetal death is a significant issue, especially in low- and middle-income countries, and is often linked to placental lesions, but previous research struggled with inconsistent classification systems for these lesions.
  • This study aimed to explore how maternal and fetal vascular malperfusions in the placenta are related to fetal and neonatal deaths, particularly in the context of serious maternal health issues like hypertension and hemorrhage.
  • Conducted in India and Pakistan, the study found higher rates of maternal vascular malperfusion in placentas linked to fetal and preterm neonatal deaths, indicating a strong association with adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Background: The presence and grading of oral epithelial dysplasia (OED) are considered the gold standard for predicting the malignant risk of oral potentially malignant disorders. However, inter-observer and intra-observer agreement in the context of reporting on OED grading has been reputedly considered unreliable.

Methods: We undertook a multi-centre study of six Indian oral pathologists to assess variations in reporting OED using the World Health Organization (WHO; 2005) system and also the recently introduced binary system.

The purpose of this paper is to present the first case of unusual reverse oblique (110 degrees to midsagittal plane) migration of mandibular right canine crossing the jaw midline and piercing the lower border of the mandible at the level of the opposite canine and also to report two more cases of transmigrated mandibular canine and one case of transmigrating mandibular canine. Mandibular canines are "cornerstone" of dental arch; their importance is manifested by their efficiency in masticatory function, stability of dental arch, and aid in maintaining natural facial expression. Early detection of this anomaly can help preserving these canines by orthodontic intervention or by surgical transplantation.
