The records of 325 women aged over 70 years, with breast cancer were reviewed to identify the characteristics of the disease in elderly women and to determine the eventual effect of age on its management. One hundred and sixty patients with primarily inoperable breast cancer entered the preoperative chemotherapy protocol. The majority of patients (156) received chemotherapy according to the Cooper regimen (CMFVp), the remaining four were treated by the FAC regimen.
