Two-dimensional (2D) chiral hybrid perovskites A2PbI4 (A: chiral organic ion) enable chirality controlled optoelectronic and spin-based properties. A+ organic sublattice induces chirality into the semiconducting [PbI4]2- inorganic sublattice through non-covalent interactions at organic-inorganic interface. Often, the A+ cations in the lattice have different orientations, leading to asymmetry in the non-covalent interactions.

A multifunctional rhodamine derivative containing azo-salicylaldehyde (BBS) was designed and synthesized as a colorimetric and fluorescence turn-on probe for the selective detection of copper cations (Cu) and hypochlorite anions (OCl) in aqueous media. In the presence of Cu, the probe BBS exhibited turn-on absorption and fluorescence change at 554 nm and 585 nm, respectively. The binding mechanism of BBS with Cu induces the opening of a spirolactam ring in the rhodamine moiety by the formation of a metal-ligand complex, achieving 10-fold enhancement in fluorescence and quantum yield, along with a binding constant of 1 × 10 M and a detection limit of 2.

A search for the exclusive hadronic decays W^{±}→π^{±}γ, W^{±}→K^{±}γ, and W^{±}→ρ^{±}γ is performed using up to 140  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13  TeV. If observed, these rare processes would provide a unique test bench for the quantum chromodynamics factorization formalism used to calculate cross sections at colliders. Additionally, at future colliders, these decays could offer a new way to measure the W boson mass through fully reconstructed decay products.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the associated production of Higgs and W bosons, focusing on how the relative signs of the Higgs couplings to W and Z bosons impact the process.
  • Two specific searches were conducted using large amounts of collision data from the LHC to analyze different coupling scenarios: one for opposite-sign couplings and another for same-sign (standard model-like) couplings.
  • The results significantly exclude the opposite-sign coupling hypothesis and set a strict upper limit on the production rate of this process compared to standard model predictions.

Crown ether anchored organic-inorganic hybrid halides have been recently reported as interesting luminescent materials in the visible region of electromagnetic spectrum. Is it possible to develop such crown ether anchored hybrid materials for near infrared emission? Motivated by this question, we designed a new hybrid material, namely, [(18-Crown-6)K][MoOCl(HO)]. 18-Crown-6 ether bound with K form the cationic part [(18-Crown-6)K].

Typical layered 2D APbX (A: organic ammonium cation, X: Br, I) perovskites undergo irreversible decomposition at high temperatures. Can they be designed to melt at lower temperatures without decomposition? Which thermodynamic parameter drive the melting of layered perovskites? These questions are addressed by considering the melt of APbX as a mixture of ions (like ionic liquids), and hypothesized that the increase in the structural entropy of fusion (ΔS) will be the driving force to decrease their melting temperature. Then to increase structural ΔS, A-site cations are designed that are rigid in the solid crystal, and become flexible in the molten state.

Statistical combinations of searches for charginos and neutralinos using various decay channels are performed using 139  fb^{-1} of pp collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Searches targeting pure-wino chargino pair production, pure-wino chargino-neutralino production, or Higgsino production decaying via standard model W, Z, or h bosons are combined to extend the mass reach to the produced supersymmetric particles by 30-100 GeV. The depth of the sensitivity of the original searches is also improved by the combinations, lowering the 95% C.

Odour plumes in turbulent environments are intermittent and sparse. Laboratory-scaled experiments suggest that information about the source distance may be encoded in odour signal statistics, yet it is unclear whether useful and continuous distance estimates can be made under real-world flow conditions. Here, we analyse odour signals from outdoor experiments with a sensor moving across large spatial scales in desert and forest environments to show that odour signal statistics can yield useful estimates of distance.
