Article Synopsis
  • Serine proteases play key roles in various biological systems, with a specific one from Vibrio parahaemolyticus identified as a virulence factor.
  • A mutated version of the serine protease gene from V. parahaemolyticus was used to create a DNA vaccine, which effectively expressed in different tissues of the white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei.
  • Vaccinated shrimp showed significantly lower mortality rates and enhanced immune responses compared to controls, indicating the potential of this DNA vaccine as a preventative measure against AHPND in shrimp.

Clip domain serine proteinases participate in invertebrate innate immunity by acting as crucial enzymes in the signaling cascade involved in shrimp immunity. To functionally characterize its role in Fenneropenaeus merguiensis, FmclipSP cDNA was cloned and characterized. The FmclipSP gene comprised 1353 bp with an open reading frame of 1110 bp and encoded 369 amino acids.
