The photochemistry of Fe(III)-Iminodiacetic acid complex (Fe(III)-IDA) was studied under UVA and UV/Vis irradiation. The synthesis was realised via molar ratio method modified by reaction of IDA as ligand with Fe(III) as metal. The interaction of Fe(III) with IDA was characterised using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and spectroscopy UV-visible.

Two coordination polymers CP1 {[Zn(II)(BIPY)(Pht)] } and CP2 {[Zn(HYD)(Pht)] } (BIPY = 4,4'-bipyridine, Pht = terephthalic acid, and HYD = 8-hydroxyquinoline) have been successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal process using zinc aqueous solution. The so-prepared compounds were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and cyclic voltammetry. XRD pointed to a crystalline phase for CP1, while CP2 required recrystallization, FTIR spectroscopy established the presence of characteristic bands for all the ligands, and TGA showed thermal stability up to 100 °C.

The mechanisms of the interactions between Fe(III) aquacomplexes and surfactants were investigated; three alkylbenzenzsulfonates, two surfactants (octylbenzenesulfonate (OBS) and dodecylbenzenesulfonate (DBS)), and a shorter derivative (ethylbenzenesulfonate (EBS)) were studied. The results with OBS show evidence for three different ways in which Fe(III) interferes with the surfactant: the widely described flocculation process, complexation of Fe(OH)2+ (aquacomplexes) by the surfactant, and a redox reaction. The formation of a weak complex is maximum for a ratio of three between the monomeric aquacomplex [FeOH(H2O)5]2+ and OBS.

The rates of Diuron elimination by some advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) such as Fe(III)/UV, Ferrioxalate/UV, Fe(III)/H(2)O(2)/UV, Ferrioxalate/UV/H(2)O(2) and Fe(III)/H(2)O(2) have been compared. Experiments have been conducted at pH=2.3+/-0.
