Induction of heat shock protein (HSP)72 protects against obesity-induced insulin resistance, but the underlying mechanisms are unknown. Here, we show that HSP72 plays a pivotal role in increasing skeletal muscle mitochondrial number and oxidative metabolism. Mice overexpressing HSP72 in skeletal muscle (HSP72Tg) and control wild-type (WT) mice were fed either a chow or high-fat diet (HFD).

Differentiation of endoderm into intestinal epithelium is initiated at E13.5 of mouse development when there are significant changes in morphology resulting in the conversion of undifferentiated stratified epithelium into a mature epithelial monolayer. Here we demonstrate that monolayer formation is associated with the selective apoptosis of superficial cells lining the lumen while cell proliferation is progressively restricted to cells adjacent to the basement membrane.

In some respects, the EGFR appears to be an attractive target for tumor-targeted antibody therapy: it is overexpressed in many types of epithelial tumor and inhibition of signaling often induces an anti-tumor effect. The use of EGFR specific antibodies, however, may be limited by uptake in organs that have high endogenous levels of the wild type EGFR such as the liver. The de2-7 EGFR (or EGFRvIII) is a naturally occurring extracellular truncation of the EGFR found in a number of tumor types including glioma, breast, lung and prostate.
