- The venoms of Androctonus australis, Leiurus quinquestriatus quinquestriatus, and Leiurus quinquestriatus hebraceus caused severe contractions and altered heart rhythms in isolated rat atria.
- The contracture and delayed afterdepolarizations (DAD) resulted from direct action on atrial cell membranes, while changes in spontaneous contractions were influenced by neurotransmitters released by the venoms.
- In vivo studies showed that these venoms led to arrhythmias and hypertension in anesthetized rats, but treatments with magnesium and lidocaine proved effective in alleviating these issues.
