Article Synopsis
  • Periodontal surgery often requires dressings for protection and healing, with common options like noneugenol packs having drawbacks such as plaque buildup and minimal healing benefits.
  • Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) membranes promote faster healing due to their growth factors but typically require sutures for stability.
  • This case report explores the use of PRF membranes combined with N-butyl cyanoacrylate adhesive as a promising alternative to traditional dressings, potentially eliminating the need for suturing.

Background: Anti-MDA5 autoantibody-positive dermatomyositis (MDA5-DM) is associated with clinically amyopathic forms and rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (ILD); however, data in children are limited. In this study, we described our cohort of anti-MDA5-positive juvenile DM (MDA5-JDM) from a tertiary care center in North India.

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of children with MDA5-JDM who were diagnosed and followed up at our center and compared them with our anti-MDA5-negative cohort.

  • Kawasaki disease can cause various nail changes in children, such as Beau's lines, leukonychia, and orange-brown chromonychia during recovery.
  • Nail pitting, which is common in other conditions, is rare in Kawasaki disease cases.
  • The text presents a unique case of nail pitting occurring in a child with Kawasaki disease.

  • Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID) is the most common primary immune deficiency in adults and is linked to higher rates of Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas (NHLs).
  • The review discusses changes in immune cells, genetic factors, and tissue pathology specifically related to NHLs in CVID patients.
  • Immune defects in CVID, such as reduced T cell types and alterations in B cells, along with genetic markers and signaling pathways, may contribute to increased lymphoma risk and require further research to identify potential prognostic indicators.

Resistance exercise training (RET) is used to improve muscular strength and function. This study tested the hypothesis that RET alongside daily supplementation of a and extract blend (SMI) would augment bench press (BP) and leg extension (LE) strength and repetitions to failure (RTF) compared to RET alone. Ninety-nine men (age 22 ± 3) completed the trial after randomization into one of four groups: (A1) 425 mg SMI plus one RET set; (A2) 850 mg SMI plus one RET set; (P1) placebo plus one RET set; and (P2) placebo plus two RET sets.

Background: Recently researches in the field of dental implantology have increased, in spite of that very limited knowledge is available to the patients about dental implants as an option for replacement of missing teeth. Goal of replacement of missing teeth is not only functional rehabilitation but overall improvement in quality of life of the patient.

Aim: To assess the awareness of dental implants and to compare oral health related quality of life (OHRQoL) in patients treated with implant supported fixed prosthesis (ISPs) and teeth supported fixed prosthesis (FPDs).

The effect of heat treatments on bulk poly-crystalline LaCaMnO perovskite manganite is presented, to explore the possible enhancement in magnetocaloric performance. Samples were prepared conventional solid-state reaction route with annealing and sintering at various temperatures. Detailed measurements of temperature-dependent and field-dependent magnetization were carried out to estimate the Curie point and order of magnetic transition.

Article Synopsis
  • - The systematic review assesses the role of vitamin D (specifically cholecalciferol) in periodontal health, indicating that while there's a recognized connection, the current literature shows significant variability and gaps in research findings.
  • - A thorough search across multiple databases led to the evaluation of 1883 papers, ultimately narrowing it down to four studies that meet the inclusion criteria for assessing vitamin D's impact on oral health.
  • - The review highlights vitamin D's dual role in oral health: supporting bone metabolism and acting as an anti-inflammatory agent, while also stressing the need for more consistent and high-quality research on the topic.

Infections with non-typhoidal Salmonella sp. have been documented in children with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), but the prevalence of salmonella infection in children with CGD in underdeveloped countries is unknown. We assessed the clinical profiles of CGD patients diagnosed at our tertiary care centre in north India and had Salmonella sp.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute vasculitis of childhood that affects the medium vessels with a special predilection to the involvement of coronary arteries. The major morbidity of this disease is due to coronary artery aneurysm, which occurs in about 25-30% of untreated cases. For decades now, intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) has consistently been shown to reduce the risk of CAAs to less than 5%.

The exact etiopathogenesis of Kawasaki disease (KD), the most common childhood vasculitis, remains unknown; however, an aberrant immune response, possibly triggered by an infectious or environmental agent in genetically predisposed children, is believed to be the underlying pathogenetic mechanism. Patients with inborn errors of immunity (IEI) are predisposed to infections that trigger immune dysregulation due to an imbalance in various arms of the immune system. KD may develop as a complication in both primary and secondary immunodeficiencies.

Objectives: Kawasaki disease (KD) is a medium vessel vasculitis with a predilection to involve coronary arteries. However, there is a paucity of literature on microvascular changes in patients with KD.

Methods: Children diagnosed with KD based on American Heart Association guidelines 2017 were enrolled prospectively.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how different methods of irrigant activation affect debris extrusion and microbial elimination in infected root canals.
  • Forty extracted human premolars were tested with four different irrigation methods after being inoculated with a specific bacteria.
  • Results indicated that passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) was the most effective in minimizing debris and bacteria, outperforming other methods like sonic irrigation and manual dynamic agitation.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is an important factor affecting the outcome of hospitalized patients under any disease condition. While a lot has been said and studied about pulmonary manifestations of COVID-19 and multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, this review focuses on its renal manifestations in children with and its complications. For the collection of data, the patient intervention control outcome model was applied to determine all eligible studies.

Aim: To compare the regenerative potential of platelet-rich fibrin alone and in combination with bovine bone graft in intraosseous defect by the single flap approach.

Materials And Methods: A total of 32 sites of intrabony defects were selected and were treated with platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) alone or in combination with bovine bone graft. Clinical parameters [Gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), Gingival recession, and radiographic parameters (defect fill, alveolar crest level, and defect depth)] were recorded at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months.

Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the major public health problems. Association of diabetes and periodontitis is widely proven and can influence each other in the development and progression of the disease and its complications, which are largely preventable. Hence, if data could be collected on the knowledge and awareness about the association between DM and periodontal disease, the results could be applied in creating public health campaigns and can bring about lifestyle modification among people.
