What are the barriers and facilitators to seeking help for mental health in NHS doctors: a systematic review and qualitative study.

Background: The mental health of healthcare professionals is reaching a breaking point, and the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated current mental health issues to unprecedented levels. Whilst some research has been carried out on the barriers that doctors face when seeking mental health help, there is little research into factors which may facilitate seeking help. We aimed to expand the research base on factors which act as barriers to seeking help, as well as gain insight into facilitators of help-seeking behaviour for mental health in NHS doctors.

The Role of Workload Management in Injury Prevention, Athletic, and Academic Performance in the Student-Athlete.

Workload plays important roles in sports-related injury and athletic performance by influencing exposure to external injury risk factors and potential events, promoting changes in fitness level, which involves positive adaptations to training that may lead to improved performance, and/or stimulating fatigue which leads to negative effects in the body that may increase the risk of injury and negatively affect performance. In addition to the physical stress and significant time required for practice and training, student athletes also face subjective stressors. The total workload affects injury risk, but acute changes or spikes in external and/or internal loads seem to affect injury risk the most.

Implications of the Gut Microbiome in Sports.

Context: Two-thirds of an individual's gut microbiota is unique and influenced by dietary and exercise habits, age, sex, genetics, ethnicity, antibiotics, health, and disease. It plays important roles in nutrient and vitamin metabolism, inflammatory modulation, immune system function, and overall health of an individual. Specifically, in sports it may help decrease recovery time and improve athletic performance.

Cost-Utility Analysis of Antibiotic Therapy versus Appendicectomy for Acute Uncomplicated Appendicitis.

Background: Current UK National Health Service (NHS) guidelines recommend appendicectomy as gold standard treatment for acute uncomplicated appendicitis. However, an alternative non-surgical management involves administrating antibiotic-only therapy with significantly lower costs. Therefore, a UK-based cost-utility analysis (CUA) was performed to compare appendicectomy with an antibiotic-only treatment from an NHS perspective.

Quality of life, depression, anxiety and stress among pregnant women with previous adverse antenatal record presenting in Sheikh Zayed Medical College/ Hospital Rahim Yar Khan.

A case-control study was conducted to determine the quality of life, frequency of anxiety symptoms, depression and stress among pregnant women with previous adverse antenatal record. Forty-five patients who presented at the Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital Rahim Yar Khan with adverse pregnancy outcome in the previous pregnancy and 45 patients who had normal live birth in the last pregnancy were evaluated to assess the impact of previous experience with anxiety, depression, stress and quality of life (QOL) during the subsequent pregnancy. The study was conducted between October 2018 and April 2019.

Review of Current Immunologic Therapies for Hidradenitis Suppurativa.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, recurrent, inflammatory disease of apocrine gland-bearing skin which affects approximately 1-4% of the population. The disease is more common in women and patients of African American descent and approximately one-third of patients report a family history. Obesity and smoking are known risk factors, but associations with other immune disorders, especially inflammatory bowel disease, are also recognized.

Intact B7-H3 signaling promotes allograft prolongation through preferential suppression of Th1 effector responses.

Ligands of the B7 family provide both positive and negative costimulatory signals to the CD28 family of receptors on T lymphocytes, the balance of which determines the immune response. B7-H3 is a member of the B7 family whose function in T-cell activation has been the subject of some controversy: in autoimmunity and tumor immunity, it has been described as both costimulatory and coinhibitory, while in transplantation, B7-H3 signaling is thought to contribute to graft rejection. However, we now demonstrate results to the contrary.
