A rare presentation of a bilateral intracranial parameningeal embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma mimicking vestibular schwannoma in a two-year-old child: a case report.

Intracranial parameningeal rhabdomyosarcomas are rare, aggressive, rapidly progressive paediatric malignancies that carry a poor prognosis. The authors report a case of a 2-year-old boy who initially presented with a left facial palsy, ataxia and, shortly after, bloody otorrhoea. MRI imaging was initially suggestive of a vestibular schwannoma.

Accuracy, precision, and safety of stereotactic, frame-based, intraoperative MRI-guided and MRI-verified deep brain stimulation in 650 consecutive procedures.

Objective: Suboptimal lead placement is one of the most common indications for deep brain stimulation (DBS) revision procedures. Confirming lead placement in relation to the visible anatomical target with dedicated stereotactic imaging before terminating the procedure can mitigate this risk. In this study, the authors examined the accuracy, precision, and safety of intraoperative MRI (iMRI) to both guide and verify lead placement during frame-based stereotactic surgery.

Impact of an in-person small group surgical skills course for preclinical medical students in an era of increased e-learning.

Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic led to a dramatic decrease in face-to-face teaching. This can particularly impact medical students' skills development. This prompted development of an in-person surgical skills course as guided by the General Medical Council "Outcomes for Graduates" facilitated by tutors with surgical experience.

A systematic review identifying outcome measures used in evaluating adults sustaining cervical spine fractures.

Objective: To assess the outcome measures used in studies investigating cervical spine fractures in adults, with or without associated spinal cord injury, to inform development of a core outcome set.

Methods: Medline, Embase and Scopus were searched for relevant studies until May 28, 2022, without a historic limit on study date. Study characteristics, population characteristics and outcomes reported were extracted and analyzed.

The association between trauma and paediatric trigger thumb deformity; experience from a single tertiary referral hospital.

Whilst the natural history and management of trigger thumb have been thoroughly investigated, the aetiology of the condition remains poorly understood. There are suggestions that this could be a congenital or acquired condition, but evidence remains limited. A history of trauma has repeatedly been noted in a proportion of patients presenting with trigger thumb.

Burnout amongst neurosurgical trainees in the UK and Ireland.

Introduction: Burnout is becoming an increasingly recognised phenomenon within the medical profession. This study aims to investigate the presence of burnout amongst neurosurgical trainees in the UK and Ireland as well as investigating potential exacerbating and protective factors.

Method: An online survey was sent to all neurosurgical trainees in the UK and Ireland via the British Neurosurgical Trainees' Association (BNTA) mailing list.
