Implementation and Evaluation of a Novel Media Education Curriculum for Pediatric Residents.

Introduction: Despite increasing awareness of media exposure to children and adolescents and the known value of media education for physicians, residency programs lack formal media education.

Methods: We designed an interactive curriculum for pediatric residents to teach health effects of media as well as screening and counseling strategies. Instructional methods were based on constructivism, experiential learning, and situated learning theories.

Menstrual disorders in adolescents and young adults with eating disorders.

Although amenorrhea is no longer a specific criterion required to make the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa (AN), the relationship between restrictive eating and menstrual status remains important in the diagnosis, treatment, and consequences for patients with eating disorders. Clinicians should understand the relationship between menstrual irregularities and malnutrition due to eating disorders, as it may be possible to intervene sooner if the diagnosis is made earlier. Treatment of AN (in those who are underweight) and atypical AN (in those who are not underweight) is aimed at cessation of restrictive thoughts and behaviors, restoration of appropriate nutrition and weight, and normal functioning of the body.

For this reason, it is important for medical providers to be familiar with how to prescribe and manage SARC in adolescents, paying particular attention to which patients are eligible to use them, which benefits the methods have outside of contraception, what side effects to be aware of, and special considerations for adolescents. Screening for celiac disease in patients with eating disorders.

Purpose: Celiac disease (CD) affects approximately 1% of the population, and although it remains largely underdiagnosed, can have considerable long-term morbidity. Common presenting symptoms include gastrointestinal complaints and weight loss, which are also symptoms seen in patients with eating disorders (EDs).
