Compatibility Assessment of Novel Orodispersible Film Vehicle for Personalized Medicine with Selected Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients.

Orodispersible films (ODFs) are solid pharmaceutical forms for rapid local or systemic release of active ingredients. They are formed by a water-soluble polymer film that hydrates rapidly, adhering and dissolving immediately when placed on the tongue or in the oral cavity. In this paper, we describe the compatibility and disintegration times of compounded ODFs using OrPhyllo, a new ready-to-use-vehicle, and APIs from different pharmacological classes, such as 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) 50 mg, bromopride 5 mg, coenzyme Q10 20 mg, melatonin 3 mg, resveratrol 5 mg, tadalafil 10 mg, vitamin B12 1 mg, or vitamin D3 2000 UI.

Three-Dimensionally Printed Vaginal Rings: Perceptions of Women and Gynecologists in a Cross-Sectional Survey.

Three-dimensional printing technologies can be implemented for the fabrication of personalized vaginal rings (VRs) as an alternative approach to traditional manufacturing. Although several studies have demonstrated the potential of additive manufacturing, there is a lack of knowledge concerning the opinions of patients and clinicians. This study aimed to investigate the perception of women and gynecologists regarding VRs with personalized shapes.

25-Hydroxyvitamin D as a biomarker of vitamin D status in plaque psoriasis and other dermatological diseases: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Hypovitaminosis D is a public health problem associated with several chronic inflammatory and immunological diseases, including psoriasis.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of hypovitaminosis D in patients with plaque psoriasis. A comparison was made between vitamin D levels in patients with psoriasis and those with other non-inflammatory dermatoses without photosensitivity.

Systemic, Intrathecal, and Intracerebroventricular Antihyperalgesic Effects of the Calcium Channel Blocker CTK 01512-2 Toxin in Persistent Pain Models.

CTK 01512-2 toxin is a recombinant peptide of the Phα1β version derived from the venom of the Phoneutria nigriventer spider. It acts as an N-type voltage-gated calcium channel (VGCC) blocker and shows a prolonged effect on preventing and reducing nociception. Herein, CTK 01512-2 was tested on two models of persistent pain, the chronic post-ischemia pain (CPIP) and the paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy, to evaluate its systemic, intrathecal, and intracerebroventricular effects on mechanical hypersensitivity and thermal allodynia.

Coupling of Fused Deposition Modeling and Inkjet Printing to Produce Drug Loaded 3D Printed Tablets.

In the current study, we have coupled Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) for the fabrication of plain polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) tablets followed by dispensing of minoxidil ethanolic solutions using inkjet printing. The use of a drop-on-solid printing approach facilitates an accurate and reproducible process while it controls the deposition of the drug amounts. For the purpose of the study, the effect of the solvent was investigated and minoxidil ink solutions of ethanol 70% / (P70) or absolute ethanol (P100) were applied on the plain PVA tablets.

Antidepressant-like effect of rosmarinic acid during LPS-induced neuroinflammatory model: The potential role of cannabinoid receptors/PPAR-γ signaling pathway.

Rosmarinic acid (RA), an ester of caffeic acid and 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyllactic acid, has anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective activities. Herein, this study investigated in silico the drug-likeness and the potential molecular targets to RA. Background: Psoriatic arthritis is the most frequent and impactful comorbidity among psoriatic patients and appears in most cases after skin disease. Dermatologists play a key role in its early diagnosis and treatment.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of psoriatic arthritis and associated variables among patients with plaque psoriasis seen at a reference center for treating psoriasis.

Assessment of a Novel Vitamin D Formulation with Nanostructured Lipid Carriers for Transdermal Delivery.

Objective: Develop and assess a transdermal emulsion loaded with nanostructured lipid carriers for vitamin D supplementation.

Methods: Vitamin D loaded nanostructured lipid carriers, produced via high shear homogenization and ultrasonication, were assessed for their particle size, distribution, morphology, zeta potential, entrapment efficiency, and cytotoxicity. They were incorporated into a transdermal vehicle, and the stability and ex vivo permeation were evaluated.

Effects of resveratrol on the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of deciduous dental pulp stem cells from neurofibromatosis type 1 patient.

Purpose: We aimed at verifying whether resveratrol can decrease cell proliferation and change osteogenic differentiation of cells obtained from patients with type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF1).

Methods: Deciduous dental pulp derived stem cells were isolated from NF1 patient and healthy volunteer. These cells were subjected to increasing concentrations of resveratrol and evaluated for proliferation and mineralization of osteogenic differentiation.

Antidepressant-Like Effect of Terpineol in an Inflammatory Model of Depression: Involvement of the Cannabinoid System and D2 Dopamine Receptor.

Depression has a multifactorial etiology that arises from environmental, psychological, genetic, and biological factors. Preparation, Characterization and Biocompatibility Studies of Cotton Cellulose Nanofibers.

Cellulose nanofibers have mechanical properties that make them very attractive in a myriad of fields such as biomedicine, tissue engineering, biosensors, cosmetics and food packet products. To evaluate the potential health risks of airborne cellulose nanofibers, the cellulose nanofiber was prepared and characterized and then its pulmonary potential toxicity to a mouse model was studied. Cellulose nanofiber has been prepared by acid hydrolysis of cotton cellulose and characterized by transmission electron microscopy, zeta potential and X-ray diffraction analysis.

Association between Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms and Endometriosis in a Brazilian Population.

Objective:  To investigate the association between genetic polymorphisms in candidate genes or candidate regions and the development of endometriosis in Brazilian women.

Methods:  A total of 30 women between 25 and 64 years old with a diagnosis of endometriosis participated in the present study, as well as 30 matched control women from the same age group, asymptomatic and without family history of the disease. The patients genotypic and allelic frequencies of polymorphisms in the gene (rs13394619) and in the intergenic region at position 7p15.

Citral Inhibits the Inflammatory Response and Hyperalgesia in Mice: The Role of TLR4, TLR2/Dectin-1, and CB2 Cannabinoid Receptor/ATP-Sensitive K Channel Pathways.

Here, the effect of citral in experimental models of acute inflammation and hyperalgesia in mice, and the underlying citral mechanisms of action were investigated.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the transmucosal permeation of progesterone and testosterone using Pentravan as its vehicle for vaginal delivery. Progesterone deficiency is a hormone imbalance that could lead to luteal-phase deficiency, which is a common problem in assisted reproductive technologies. Testosterone has been explored for treating postmenopausal symptoms, such as vaginal atrophy.

Transdermal Delivery of Metformin Hydrochloride from a Semisolid Vehicle.

Metformin hydrochloride is a traditional, FDA-approved drug used as a first-line drug of choice to treat type 2 diabetes. Research has shown metformin hydrochloride effective in injuries, including age-related maladies. The purpose of this ex vivo study was to evaluate the use of a commercial transdermal vehicle as a semisolid, liposomal vanishing cream (Pentravan) to deliver metformin hydrochloride through the human skin.

Compounded Orodispersible Films with Natural Ingredients for Halitosis: A Clinical Experience.

Halitosis can be described as unpleasant odors emanating from the oral cavity. It is usually associated with decomposition action of bacteria present mainly on the back of the tongue and periodontal pockets, and able to produce volatile sulfur compounds. We conducted a study at the Faculty of Dentistry, Federal University of Juiz de Fora and evaluated the therapeutic effect of two natural extracts, Camellia sinensis (green tea) and resveratrol in the form of oral polymer films, to control halitosis.

Permeation Efficacy of a Transdermal Vehicle with Steroidal Hormones and Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Agents as Model Drugs.

Background: Transdermal delivery is an alternative route for the administration of drugs. However, it requires the development of vehicles that allow the drugs to cross the layers of the skin and reach the systemic circulation.

Objective: In this study, a new transdermal vehicle was evaluated using progesterone, estradiol, estradiol + estriol (Biest) and ketoprofen administered as model drugs.
