Brain aging is the leading risk factor for most neurodegenerative diseases and has been linked with high rates of neuron loss. Thus, identifying molecular mechanisms underlying neuron loss and pharmacological modulation may be of great importance for slowing or preventing age-related diseases. Herein, we investigated the roles of miR-92a, Akt, mTOR, and NF-κB in age-associated apoptosis in the hippocampus (a critical structure involved in brain aging) of male rats alone and in combination with prazosin.

Exosomes are nanoscale vesicles enriched with proteins, RNA, and lipids that facilitate critical intercellular communication processes. Recent studies have elucidated the role of exosomes in transmitting misfolded proteins among neurons, which significantly impacts the progression of PD.

Since a cytokine storm is triggered in Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), this study aims to evaluate pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β), Receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)/serum osteoprotegerin (OPG) ratio, and their relationship in mild and severe COVID-19.
Methods: This study was performed on 48 adult patients (18 mild, 18 severe COVID-19, and 12 healthy subjects as a control group).
Anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) abuse is linked to some abnormalities in several tissues including the kidney. However, the precise molecular mediators involved in AAS-induced kidney disorder remain elusive. The main objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of Nandrolone decanoate on kidney injury alone or in combination with moderate exercise and its related mechanisms.

Experimental Approach: Twenty-four male Wistar rats were classified into three groups, namely, control, CsA, and CsA + exercise.
Findings/results: After 42 days of treatment, the findings showed a significant enhancement in the expression of the β-MHC gene, enhancement in protein expression of Bax and caspase-3, and a significant decline in the protein expression of Bcl-2 expression, as well as increased proliferation intensity in the heart tissue of the CsA group compared to the control group.
This study delves into the chemical and genetic determinants of petal color and fragrance in L., a wild rose species prized for its pharmacological and cosmetic uses. Comparative analysis of white and dark pink flowers revealed that the former harbors significantly higher levels of total phenolics (TPC) and flavonoids (TFC), while the latter is distinguished by elevated total anthocyanins (TAC).

Methods: Twenty-eight first-year dental hygiene students (DH1) at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry (UTSD) participated in this 2022 study. Each student participated in two 4-h lab sessions.
Dopamine is a known catecholamine neurotransmitter involved in several physiological processes, including motor control, motivation, reward, cognition, and immune function. Dopamine receptors are widely distributed throughout the nervous system and in immune cells. Several viruses, including human immunodeficiency virus and Japanese encephalitis virus, can use dopaminergic receptors to replicate in the nervous system and are involved in viral neuropathogenesis.

To address this issue, combination therapy has been proposed as an effective treatment strategy for SCI regeneration. In this study, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)-derived exosomes loaded with dexamethasone were utilized in a mouse model of SCI compression.

Mobile health approaches such as short messaging service (SMS) texting have led to better control of HTN in the general population. Despite the high utilisation of mobile phones by PEH, SMS texting to support HTN control has not been evaluated among this population.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion on miR-27a/smurf1 axis in rat cerebral cortex alone and in combination with chlorogenic acid.
Methods: To create a model of ischemic brain injury, nylon monofilament occlusion of the common carotid artery (CCAO) was used for 20 min.
Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by a myriad of symptoms, encompassing both motor disabilities and cognitive impairments. Recent research has shown that abscisic acid (ABA) is a phytohormone found in various brain regions of several mammals and exhibits neuroprotective properties. To investigate the effects of ABA on cognitive and motor disorders, a mouse model of PD was utilized.

The present study evaluated the role of the Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β)/Smad3/miR-29b signaling pathway and CaMKIIδ isoforms gene expression in cardiac remodeling under CsA exposure alone or combined with moderate exercise.
Methods: A total of 24 male Wistar rats were divided into control, cyclosporine (30 mg/kg BW), and cyclosporine-exercise groups.
Exposure to prenatal stress (PS) leads to the offspring's vulnerability towards the development of cognitive and behavioral disorders. Laterodorsal tegmentum (LDT) is a part of the brainstem cholinergic system that is believed to play a pivotal role in the stress-associated progression of anxiety, memory impairment, and addictive behaviors. In this study, we aimed to investigate the electrophysiological alterations of LDT cholinergic neurons and its accompanied behavioral and cognitive outcomes in the offspring of mice exposed to physical or psychological PS.
