Al Amar gold ore is rich in sulfides of base metals and is commercially applied for the production of copper concentrate via floatation and gold bullion by cyanidation of tailing. The current process flowsheet suffers from low gold recovery (∼60%) and loss of metals in the hazardous stockpiled residue. This work addresses these drawbacks by a newly experimental redesign of the process circuit.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how the microstructure and chemical makeup of various Ti-based alloys (Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-6Al-7Nb, TC21) affect the growth and breakdown of passive layers that prevent corrosion.
  • Cyclic polarization and chronoamperometry were used to measure corrosion rates and the kinetics of passive layer growth, while dynamic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (DEIS) assessed uniform corrosion rates in a saline solution at body temperature.
  • Results indicated that TC21 exhibited the highest susceptibility to pitting corrosion, while Ti-6Al-7Nb showed the lowest resistance, and differences in microstructure were crucial to understanding the alloys' varying corrosion behaviors.
