Objective: To provide French guidelines about "Airway management during paediatric anaesthesia".

Design: A consensus committee of 17 experts from the French Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine (Société Française d'Anesthésie-Réanimation, SFAR) and the Association of French speaking paediatric anaesthesiologists and intensivists (Association Des Anesthésistes Réanimateurs Pédiatriques d'Expression Francophone, ADARPEF) was convened. Current international guidelines strongly recommend catheter removal in case of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLASBI), but a catheter salvage strategy may be considered in children given age-related specificities. Our aim was to describe our achievements in pediatric intestinal transplantation (ITx) and define areas for improvement. After a period (1987-1990) of nine isolated small bowel transplants (SBTx) where only one patient survived with her graft, 110 ITx were performed on 101 children from 1994 to 2014: 60 SBTx, 45 liver-small bowel, four multivisceral (three with kidneys), and one modified multivisceral. Indications were short bowel syndrome (36), motility disorders (30), congenital enteropathies (34), and others (1).

Background: Diabetes mellitus is associated with alterations in peripheral striated muscles and cardiomyopathy. We examined diaphragmatic function and fiber composition and identified the role of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR alpha and beta/delta) as a factor involved in diaphragm muscle plasticity in response to type I diabetes.

Objective: Brain death may induce cardiac dysfunction. In potential organ donors measurements of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and circulating cardiac troponins T and I (cTnT and cTnI), alone or in combination, are performed to investigate the accuracy of these biomarkers for early diagnosis of left ventricular systolic dysfunction.

Background: Sex-related differences in the perception of pain and susceptibility to opioids remain a matter of debate. Intravenous morphine titration used to obtain pain relief in the immediate postoperative period is a unique clinical model for assessing the effect of sex on reported pain.
