Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates how effective RENAL nephrometry scores are in guiding open partial nephrectomy for kidney cancer and looks into perioperative factors that affect patient outcomes.
  • Conducted at a urology department in Pakistan over nearly six years, it examined 48 patients and gathered data on preoperative CT scans and various surgical outcomes.
  • Results show that the RENAL score significantly correlates with factors like ischaemia time and blood loss; however, the scores are still useful for surgical planning despite limited connection to complications.

  • A rare case of RCC was observed that involved a thrombus in the ureter extending into the renal pelvicalyceal system, prompting a detailed diagnostic process due to the patient's symptoms like flank pain and hematuria.
  • The study emphasizes the need for comprehensive diagnostic and treatment strategies for unusual RCC presentations, highlighting the aggressive nature of advanced cases characterized by ureteral extension and neovascularization.
