Background: Atypia of undetermined significance/follicular lesion of undetermined significance (AUS/FLUS) show variable malignancy risk. We validated the web-based predictive models and the scoring system by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for AUS/FLUS nodules to stratify the malignancy risk.
Methods: From January 2011 to November 2014, 275 consecutive nodules diagnosed as AUS/FLUS were enrolled.
Background: To explore the association of platelet activation markers, vitamin D, and antiplatelet drugs resistance in ischemic stroke patients.
Methods: A total of 230 patients with ischemic stroke were enrolled in this study. Platelet aggregation, platelet activation marker (CD62p), and vitamin D were measured after 7-14 days of dual antiplatelet treatment (aspirin + clopidogrel).
Background The diagnostic performance and unnecessary biopsy rates for evaluation of thyroid nodules varies among the current society guidelines. We hypothesized that diagnostic performance and unnecessary biopsy rates of different guidelines are largely determined by different thyroid size thresholds used as cutoff values that determine when to biopsy a thyroid nodule. Purpose To compare the malignancy risk, diagnostic performance, and unnecessary biopsy rates of three guidelines and evaluate the changes according to the nodule size cutoff for biopsy.

Methods: We included 432 consecutive thyroid nodules from 384 patients who underwent ultrasound-guided FNA with benign results (≥1 cm). The false negative rate in the nodules was assessed according to the nodule size and ultrasound pattern based on the Korean-Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (K-TIRADS).
The identification of host protein substrates is key to understanding effector glycosyltransferases secreted by pathogenic bacteria and to using them for glycoprotein engineering. Here we report a chemical method for tagging, enrichment, and site-specific proteomic profiling of effector-modified proteins in host cells. Using this method, we discover that Legionella effector SetA α-O-glucosylates various eukaryotic proteins by recognizing a S/T-X-L-P/G sequence motif, which can be exploited to site-specifically introduce O-glucose on recombinant proteins.

In this study, we designed short peptides by fusing an α-helix and β-turn sequence-motif in a symmetric-end template to promote the higher cell selectivity, antibacterial activity and salt-resistance of these structures. The results showed that the designed peptides PQ and PP tended to form an α-helical structure upon interacting with a membrane-mimicking environment.

The Task Force Committee of the Korean Society of Thyroid Radiology developed recommendations for the optimal use of RFA for thyroid tumors in 2012 and revised them in 2017. Herein, we review and summarize the 2017 thyroid RFA guideline and compare it with the 2012 thyroid RFA guideline.

There is a growing demand for the development of new types of implantable optoelectronics to support both basic neuroscience and optogenetic treatments for neurological disorders. Target specification requirements include multi-site optical stimulation, programmable radiance profile, safe operation, and miniaturization. It is also preferable to have a simple serial interface rather than large numbers of control lines.

Methods: From June 2013 to May 2015, a total of 902 consecutive thyroid nodules were enrolled in four institutions, and their US features were retrospectively reviewed and classified using the categories defined by the three guidelines. The malignancy risk of each category, as defined by all three risk-stratification systems, was calculated, and the diagnostic performance of the fine-needle aspiration (FNA) indications of the ATA guidelines were compared to those of the KTA/KSThR and ACR guidelines.

Endoplasmic reticulum stress has been considered a major cause of pancreatic β-cell dysfunction and apoptosis leading to diabetes. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor activation and chemical chaperones have been known to reduce endoplasmic reticulum stress and improve β-cell function and survival. The purpose of this study was to prepare and evaluate the chemical chaperone tauroursodeoxycholic acid-conjugated exendin-4 as a protective agent for pancreatic β-cells.

Although numerous drying methods have been used for preparing dried protein powders, choosing a suitable drying technique remains a challenge. In this review, the most frequent drying methods, such as freeze drying, spray drying, spray freeze drying, and supercritical fluid drying, for improving the stability and bioavailability of therapeutic proteins, are discussed.

In this study, we found that hypoxia increased Mxi1-0 expression, and the Mxi1-0 siRNA could inhibit caspase-8 activation and apoptosis in HUVECs induced by hypoxia.

Recent studies indicate that the bacterial metabolite D-glycero-β-D-manno-heptose 1,7-bisphosphate (HBP) can activate NF-κB signalling in host cytosol, but it is unclear whether HBP is a genuine PAMP and the cognate pattern recognition receptor has not been identified. Here we combined a transposon screen in Yersinia pseudotuberculosis with biochemical analyses and identified ADP-β-D-manno-heptose (ADP-Hep), which mediates type III secretion system-dependent NF-κB activation and cytokine expression.

Thermal ablation using radiofrequency is a new, minimally invasive modality employed as an alternative to surgery in patients with benign thyroid nodules and recurrent thyroid cancers. The Task Force Committee of the Korean Society of Thyroid Radiology (KSThR) developed recommendations for the optimal use of radiofrequency ablation for thyroid tumors in 2012. As new meaningful evidences have accumulated, KSThR decided to revise the guidelines.

Development of agents that could inhibit the formation of A1 reactive astrocytes could be used to treat these diseases for which there are no disease-modifying therapies. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP1R) agonists have been indicated as potential neuroprotective agents for neurologic disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.

Methods: Three hundred fifty-one patients with thyroid cancers from 7 hospitals were prospectively enrolled in order to compare diagnostic performance between a combination of ultrasound and CT (ultrasound/CT) and ultrasound alone for prediction of lymph node metastasis and to calculate patient-based benefits of CT added to ultrasound.
Results: Of 801 pathologically proven neck levels, ultrasound/CT showed higher sensitivities in both central and lateral compartments and improved accuracy in the lateral compartment compared to ultrasound alone.
Objective: To test whether the impact of thyroid-nodule size on the malignancy risk differs according to the ultrasonography (US) patterns of nodules.
Materials And Methods: This study is a post hoc analysis using data from the Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TIRADS) multicenter retrospective study which included 2000 consecutive thyroid nodules (≥ 1 cm) with final diagnoses. A total of 2000 consecutive thyroid nodules from 1802 patients (1387 women and 613 men; mean age, 51.
The purpose of this study was to prepare spray freeze-dried particles of immunoglobulin G (IgG) using various combinations of trehalose and different amino acids (leucine, phenylalanine, arginine, cysteine, and glycine), and investigate the effect of the amino acids on the stability of IgG during the spray freeze-drying (SFD) process and storage. The morphology and structural integrity of the processed particles were evaluated by physical and spectroscopic techniques. SFD-processed IgG without any excipient resulted in the formation of aggregates corresponding to approximately 14% of IgG.

Active probes with onboard light emissive elements allow for electronic multiplexing and can be manufactured through existing microelectronics methods. Herein, a unique nick (8-oxoguanine, 8-oxoG) was positioned in duplex DNA containing P-circle and P1, which together serve as a FPG substrate, RCA template, and RCA primer probe. The presence of FPG specifically binds 8-oxoG and cleaves the P-circle into two parts, producing 5'-phosphoryl termini.
