Aim: A central task for the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) is to produce an annual report of the latest data available on drug demand and drug supply in Europe. This paper is intended to facilitate a better understanding of, and easier access to, the main quantitative European level data sets available in 2015.
Methods: The European reporting system formally covers all 28 European Union (EU) Member States, Norway and Turkey and incorporates multiple indicators alongside an early warning system (EWS) on uncontrolled new psychoactive substances (NPS).
Introduction: Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, with metastatic disease frequently a prominent feature at the time of diagnosis. The role of NSCLC-derived EGFR mutations in cancer cell proliferation and survival has been widely reported, but little is known about the function of these mutations in invasive growth and metastasis. In this study, we sought to evaluate the intrinsic invasive properties of NSCLC cells with differing EGFR status and examine possible therapeutic targets that can abrogate invasive growth.

SMC targeting depends on a complex interplay of climate, malaria transmission and population distribution. In this study a spatial decision support framework was developed to identify health districts suitable for the targeting of SMC across seven Sahelian countries and northern states of Nigeria that are members of the Nouakchott Initiative.

Pregnant women attending antenatal clinic for their first visit are a potential pragmatic sentinel group to track the intensity of malaria transmission; however, the relation between malaria prevalence in children, a standard measure to estimate malaria endemicity, and pregnant women has never been compared.
Methods: We obtained data on malaria prevalence in pregnancy from the Malaria in Pregnancy Library (January, 2015) and data for children (0-59 months) were obtained from recently published work on parasite prevalence in Africa and the Malaria in Pregnancy Library.
Five platinum(II) complexes bearing a (1,3-dibenzyl)imidazol-2-ylidene ligand but different leaving groups trans to it were examined for cytotoxicity, DNA and cell cycle interference, vascular disrupting properties, and nephrotoxicity. The cytotoxicity of complexes 3a-c increased with the steric shielding of their leaving chloride ligand, and complex 3c, featuring two triphenylphosphanes, was the most efficacious, with submicromolar IC50 concentrations. Complexes 3a-c interacted with DNA in electrophoretic mobility shift and ethidium bromide binding assays.

These restricted temporal analyses may miss the wider context of longer-term cycles of malaria risk and hence may lead to incorrect inferences regarding the impact of intervention.
Methods: 1147 age-corrected Plasmodium falciparum parasite prevalence (PfPR2-10) surveys among rural communities along the Kenyan coast were assembled from 1974 to 2014.
Objective: To investigate the predictors of wasting, stunting and low mid-upper arm circumference among children aged 6-59 months in Somalia using data from household cross-sectional surveys from 2007 to 2010 in order to help inform better targeting of nutritional interventions.
Design: Cross-sectional nutritional assessment surveys using structured interviews were conducted among communities in Somalia each year from 2007 to 2010. A two-stage cluster sampling methodology was used to select children aged 6-59 months from households across three livelihood zones (pastoral, agro-pastoral and riverine).
Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP) might present with severe gastrointestinal (GI) involvement. Herein, we report 3 cases of HSP with severe GI manifestations in the form of hematemesis, melena, pancreatitis, and erosive gastritis. Different treatment modalities were not successful.

Recently, preclinical evidence in pancreatic cancer has demonstrated that mutant KRAS can be regulated by EGFR. However, the distinct correlation between the EGFR/HER family members and mutant KRAS has not been investigated.

Studying the environmental triggers for CVD risk factors is important to understand the situation in a broader perspective. Young adults are influenced the most by the environment profile around them hence it is important to study this subset of the population.

Methods: A review of published and un-published reports of malaria vector control and parasite prevention in Uganda was conducted for the period 1900-2013. The objective was to provide a perspective as to how epidemiological intelligence was used to design malaria control before and during the global malaria eradication programme (GMEP) and to contrast this with the evidence generated in support of the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) initiative from 1998 to date.
Duplications of chromosome region 15q11-q13 with the maternal imprint are associated with a wide spectrum of neuropsychiatric disorders, including autism spectrum disorders, developmental delay, learning difficulties, schizophrenia, and seizures. These observations suggest there is a dosage-sensitive imprinted gene or genes within this region that explains the increased risk for neuropsychiatric phenotypes. We present a female patient with developmental delay in whom we identified a maternally inherited 129-Kb duplication in chromosome region 15q11.

Data were collected from 228 employed hepatitis C virus patients who had been admitted to Gastroenterology and Hepatology wards in Pakistani hospitals. We found support for the hypothesis that workplace bullying is associated with low self-esteem via internalized stigma.

In systems biology, the regulation of gene expressions involves a complex network of regulators. Transcription factors (TFs) represent an important component of this network: they are proteins that control which genes are turned on or off in the genome by binding to specific DNA sequences. Transcription regulatory networks (TRNs) describe gene expressions as a function of regulatory inputs specified by interactions between proteins and DNA.

Reaction with 4,4'-bipyridine, on the other hand, completely cleaves the metal-metal bond, leading to a chromium(II)-based molecular square. XRD and magnetic measurements show ligand radical anions and a ferrimagnetic alignment of alternating metal and ligand magnetic moments.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA quintuply bonded dichromium complex stabilized by aminopyridinato ligands activates CO2 and SO2 by reducing the (formal) bond order of the metal-metal bonds. Oxygen abstraction is observed during CO2 activation. SO2 activation proceeds via formation of a unique dithionite complex/coordination.
