Objectives: To investigate the association between duration of consecutive presence of decoy cells on urine cytology and BK virus nephropathy after kidney transplantation.

The Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident caused serious Cs contamination in mountainous forest areas. To understand the spatial variation in soil Cs inventory in complex mountainous topography and the influencing factors, a whole-area investigation of Cs deposition in a broad-leaved forest catchment of a mountain stream was conducted using grid sampling. Mammalian taste buds comprise types I, II, and III taste cells, with each type having specific characteristics: glia-like supporting cells (type I), taste receptor cells (type II), and presynaptic cells (type III). In this study, to characterize the peripheral taste-sensing systems in chickens, we analyzed the distributions of the mammalian types I, II, and III taste cell markers in chicken taste buds: glutamate-aspartate transporter (GLAST) for type I; taste receptor type 1 members 1 and 3 (T1R1 and T1R3), taste receptor type 2 member 7 (T2R7), and α-gustducin for type II; and synaptosomal protein 25 (SNAP25) and neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) for type III. We found that most GLAST taste cells expressed α-gustducin and SNAP25 and that high percentages of T1R3 or α-gustducin taste cells expressed SNAP25 and NCAM.

We report a 62-year-old male with metastatic fumarate hydratase-deficient renal cell carcinoma (FH-deficient RCC) without fumarate hydratase (FH) mutation (FH-deficient-like RCC). The International Metastatic RCC Database Consortium risk score was intermediate, and immunotherapy with nivolumab and ipilimumab (Ipi/ Nivo) was initiated. Four cycles of Ipi/Nivo and 5 cycles of nivolumab resulted in a complete response of the metastases.

Although two live oral rotavirus (RV) vaccines, Rotarix and RotaTeq, play a critical role toward reducing disease severity, hospitalization, and death rate in RV infections, regular monitoring of vaccine effectiveness (VE) is yet necessary because the segmented genome structure and reassortment capability of RVs pose considerable threats toward waning VE. In this study, we examined the VE by a test-negative study design against G9P[8]I2 strain during a seasonal outbreak in February-May, 2018, in an outpatient clinic in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan.
