The results of treatment of 100 patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss were analysed in three age groups (under 30, 30-60, over 60 years). The basic therapy consisted of Dextran, Diazepam and Vitamins. One half of the patients in each age group was treated with Naftidrofuryl (Dusodril) too.

Ontogenetic tumors that originate from the base of the skull are found very rarely. The case reported deals with a heterotopic pharyngeal pituitary adenoma, that started growing from the epipharynx.

From 1971-1978, 82 of our 265 patients with malignant tumors were treated by this method in conjunction with irradiation and surgery. In 93% of these patients so treated, no secondary lymph node metastases could be found, although local recurrences from the primary tumors could not be prevented.

It is very difficult to diagnose due to absence of early symptoms as in this reported case, which was diagnosed histologically and which temporally responded to steroids and Imurek. Change histologically to a reticulum cell sarcoma has not been proven.
