Background: One-stage bilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has the advantages of a single hospital stay, shorter rehabilitation, and reduced financial burden on patients. However, perioperative bleeding is greater with one-stage bilateral TKA than with unilateral TKA and is more likely to require allogeneic blood transfusion. At our hospital, we normally store autologous blood about 1 month before surgery to reduce the need for allogeneic blood transfusion and avoid its adverse reactions as much as possible.

Thymic Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma: A Clinicopathologic and Molecular Study.

Thymic mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is a rare tumor, and its characteristics remain to be clarified. Here we investigated 20 cases of thymic MEC to systematically characterize its clinical, histopathologic, and molecular features. The median age of the patients was 56 years (range, 19 to 80 y), there was a slight male predilection (3:2), and 44% of the patients were asymptomatic at diagnosis.

Background: The efficacy of irinotecan plus continuous trastuzumab beyond progression in patients with gastric cancer previously treated with trastuzumab plus standard first-line chemotherapy has not been reported.

Methods: Patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive advanced gastric cancer who were previously treated with trastuzumab received trastuzumab every 3 weeks and irinotecan every 2 weeks. The primary endpoint was the overall response rate (ORR), and the secondary endpoints included progression-free survival (PFS), 6-month survival rates, safety, and subgroup analysis by HER2 status.

High-pressure techniques open exploration of functional materials in broad research fields. An established diamond anvil cell with a boron-doped diamond heater and transport measurement terminals has performed the high-pressure synthesis of a cubic SnS superconductor. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy reveal that the SnS phase is stable in the pressure range of > 5 GPa in a decompression process.

The role of uropathogenic (UPEC) in colonization and infection of female patients with anatomical and functional abnormalities of the urinary system is elusive. In this study, the phenotype, genotype and the phylogeny of UPEC strains isolated from the urine of pediatric female patients with cystitis of normal and abnormal urinary tract were determined.
