The effect of local gamma-ray irradiation on the enzymatic activity of superoxide dismutase in salivary glands was examined. Mice received a single dose of 60Co gamma-ray irradiation in the range of 3 to 24 Gy to their neck regions. The enzymatic activity in salivary glands was decreased significantly at the 7th day and almost recovered at the 14th day after irradiation with over 6 Gy.

The inhibitor was purified by a series of column chromatographies: DEAE-cellulose and CM-cellulose ion-exchange chromatography, concanavalin A-Sepharose and heparin-Sepharose affinity chromatography, and finally by Sephacryl S-200 gel filtration. The purified inhibitor migrated as a single band on sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and had a molecular mass of 28,000.

The localization of sudanophil material at dentine, the compact bone and epiphyseal cartilage plate of tibia of rat given beryllium carbonate was examined. Sudanophil material was seen at the boundary parts between dentine and widened predentine, and between widened preosseous matrix and calcified bone, but it was not seen at the area corresponding to the zone of provisional calcification. These facts suggest that the localization of sudanophil material in hard tissue of rat with Be rickets was similar to that in vitamin D deficient-induced rickets.

A case of hemophilia B with hemarthrosis in the TMJ, which led to pain and limitation of jaw movement, was successfully controlled by transfusion of Konyne.

No definite correlation existed between the clinical severity of hemophilia and the results of coagulation tests (activity of deficient factors, whole blood clotting time, thromboplastin screening test). There was also no correlation between the presence or absence of oral bleeding or hemarthrosis and the test results.

The coagulation-fibrinolysis system was studied during Ethrane anaesthesia and gynaecological operations in 20 patients. No particular change was noted in the platelet counts, which remained within the normal range. In the coagulation system, no appreciable change was observed except for the partial thromboplastin time (P.

It was shown that fe(III) is effectively masked by fluoride. The pH of the solution to be masked should be below 2.

The improvement is attributed to reduction of the reagent blank and increased stability of Al(ferron)(3-)(3). The aluminium-ferron complex formed in the presence of CTMAC has an absorption peak at 385 nm.
