Development and Validation of the Participation Questionnaire for Preschoolers with Autism Spectrum Disorder: Structural Validity, Internal Consistency, and Construct Validity.

Aim: This study aimed to develop the Participation Questionnaire for Preschoolers (PQP) and validate its psychometric properties as a disability-specific tool designed to assess participation in preschool-aged children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited caregivers of 412 children, including those diagnosed with ASD and those at risk for neurodevelopmental disorders. Participants were recruited from child development facilities, medical institutions, and developmental support websites across Japan.

The effect of subjective postural vertical on forward flexed posture in Parkinson's disease.

Background: We developed a novel method to measure the angle of subjective postural vertical (SPV) and showed that the SPV may be related to the exacerbation of the forward flexed posture.

Objectives: The present study prospectively tested the effects of the subjective postural vertical on the exacerbation of the forward flexion of trunk (FFT) through long-term observation of Parkinson's disease patients.

Methods: Evaluation of the posture included measuring FFT, the angle of lateral flexion of trunk, and the angle at the position that the patient subjectively perceived as the vertical position at a stationary upright position immediately after standing up at the time of initial observation, 6 months later, and 1 year later.

Participation Questionnaire for Preschoolers With Autism Spectrum Disorder: Item Development.

Occupational therapists need to comprehensively assess the participation of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in daily activities and evaluate the effectiveness of relevant interventions. Several participation measurement tools have been developed for children with ASD, but these tools require expert involvement, which is a barrier to large-scale surveys. To address these concerns, a caregiver-administered questionnaire-the Participation Questionnaire for Preschoolers (PQP)-was developed.

Transition-zone PSA-density calculated from MRI deep learning prostate zonal segmentation model for prediction of clinically significant prostate cancer.

Purpose: To develop a deep learning (DL) zonal segmentation model of prostate MR from T2-weighted images and evaluate TZ-PSAD for prediction of the presence of csPCa (Gleason score of 7 or higher) compared to PSAD.

Methods: 1020 patients with a prostate MRI were randomly selected to develop a DL zonal segmentation model. Test dataset included 20 cases in which 2 radiologists manually segmented both the peripheral zone (PZ) and TZ.

CT findings, prognosis, and follow-up of pulmonary artery periadventitial hematoma with aortic dissection: a retrospective single-center study.

Background: Pulmonary artery periadventitial hematoma (PAPH) with aortic dissection (AD) is a rare condition but has been reported to correlate with prognosis. However, there are few cases of PAPH, and the relationship with computed tomography (CT) findings of AD are unknown. This study aimed to evaluate CT findings and early prognosis in patients with PAPH in AD.

Effect of individualized occupational therapy on cognition among patients with schizophrenia: A randomized controlled trial.

This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of individualized occupational therapy (IOT) plus group occupational therapy (GOT) as standard care for cognition compared to GOT alone, and to determine which IOT component has the greatest effect on cognitive outcome in patients with schizophrenia. This study was conducted at 14 clinical sites across Japan and enrolled recently hospitalized patients with schizophrenia. The IOT consisted of motivational interview, self-monitoring, individualized visits, craft activities, individualized psychoeducation, and discharge planning.

Individually optimized estimation of energy expenditure in rescue workers using a tri-axial accelerometer and heart rate monitor.

This study aimed to provide an improved energy expenditure estimation for heavy-load physical labor using accelerometer data and heart rate (HR) measured by wearables and to support food preparation and supply management for disaster relief and rescue operations as an expedition team. To achieve an individually optimized estimation for energy expenditure, a model equation parameter was determined based on the measurements of physical activity and HR during simulated rescue operations. The metabolic equivalent of task (MET), which was measured by using a tri-axial accelerometer and individual HR, was used, where two (minimum and maximum) or three (minimum, intermediate, and maximum) representative reference points were selected for each individual model fitting.

Domesticated animals have been developed by selecting desirable traits following the initial unconscious selection stage, and now exhibit phenotypes desired by humans. Tameness is a common behavioural trait found in all domesticated animals. At the same time, these domesticated animals exhibit a variety of morphological, behavioural, and physiological traits that differ from their wild counterparts of their ancestral species.

A case of chylous ascites caused by reflux from the cisterna chyli to the disrupted common iliac lymphatic vessel: fluoroscopic records during intranodal lymphangiography.

A 40-year-old woman underwent laparoscopic common iliac lymphadenectomy for metastasis from rectal cancer. Two weeks after the surgery, she was found to have massive chylous ascites. After failure of conservative treatment, bilateral inguinal intranodal lymphangiography was performed.

Cost-effectiveness of occupational therapy for older adults: a protocol for an updated systematic review.

Introduction: The ageing populations in developed countries are a global concern, with increasing numbers of older adults facing physical, cognitive and psychological challenges, resulting in reduced quality of life and higher healthcare costs. Healthcare expenditure worldwide has been on the rise, especially among older adults, emphasising the importance of enabling independent living while reducing healthcare costs. Occupational therapy holds promising outcomes in promoting functional independence and enhancing the quality of life for older adults, but research on its cost-effectiveness remains limited.

Muscle and fat composition in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma.

Measures of muscle and adipose tissue mass have been associated with outcomes in several malignancies, but studies in multiple myeloma (MM) are inconsistent. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between muscle and fat areas and radiodensity, and overall survival (OS) in patients with newly diagnosed MM. We included 341 patients diagnosed with MM from 2010-2019 who had an F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography at diagnosis.

Long-Term Outcomes and Risk of Pancreatic Cancer in Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasms.

Importance: Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) are pancreatic cysts that can give rise to pancreatic cancer (PC). Limited population data exist on their prevalence, natural history, or risk of malignant transformation (IPMN-PC).

Objective: To fill knowledge gaps in epidemiology of IPMNs and associated PC risk by estimating population prevalence of IPMNs, associated PC risk, and proportion of IPMN-PC.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of cancer detection rate (CDR) and abnormal interpretation rate (AIR) in prostate MRI for patients with low-grade prostate cancer (PCa).

Methods: This three-center retrospective study included patients who underwent prostate MRI from 2017 to 2021 with known low-grade PCa (Gleason score 6) without prior treatment. Patient-level highest Prostate Imaging Reporting & Data System (PI-RADS®) score and pathologic diagnosis within 1 year after MRI were used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of prostate MRI in detecting clinically significant PCa (csPCa; Gleason score ≥ 7).

Predictors of lung injury during durvalumab maintenance therapy following concurrent chemoradiotherapy in unresectable locally advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma.

Background: Based on the results of the PACIFIC trial, maintenance with durvalumab has emerged as the standard treatment following concurrent chemoradiotherapy in patients with unresectable locally advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). However, adverse events attributed to durvalumab, especially lung injuries, including immune-related adverse events, and radiation pneumonitis, are concerning. This study retrospectively investigated the factors related to lung injury in patients receiving the PACIFIC regimen.

Artificial intelligence assisted whole organ pancreatic fat estimation on magnetic resonance imaging and correlation with pancreas attenuation on computed tomography.

Background: Fatty pancreas is associated with inflammatory and neoplastic pancreatic diseases. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the diagnostic modality of choice for measuring pancreatic fat. Measurements typically use regions of interest limited by sampling and variability.

Energy Expenditure of Disaster Relief Operations Estimated Using a Tri-Axial Accelerometer and a Wearable Heart Rate Monitor.

The management of nutrition, food, and health for disaster relief personnel is one of the crucial aspects for carrying out effective rescue activities during large-scale natural disasters, such as a big earthquake, flooding, and landslide following heavy rainfall or man-made disasters, such as widespread fire in industrial areas. Rescue workers, such as fire fighters and rescue teams who work on the disaster relief operations, have to work long, hard, and irregular hours that require energy (both intake and expenditure), with especially altered eating patterns. Reliable estimates of the energy expenditure (TEE) for such disaster relief operations have not been fully established.

Primary tracheal small-cell carcinoma detected 11 months after surgery for pulmonary large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma: A case report.

Primary tracheal small-cell carcinoma is rare, and is often treated using small-cell lung cancer guidelines given that no standard treatment has been established for it. We report a patient in whom nodules appeared in the trachea and left main bronchus 11 months after surgery for pulmonary large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma; a biopsy revealed small-cell carcinoma. Given the absence of malignant lesions elsewhere in the body, the lesions were diagnosed as primary tracheal small-cell carcinoma.

Thymic atypical carcinoid tumors with elevated mitotic counts in a patient with multiple endocrine neoplasia: A case report.

Thymic neuroendocrine tumors associated with multiple endocrine neoplasia are only defined as carcinoid and are not associated with large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC). We report the case of a multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 patient with atypical carcinoid tumors with elevated mitotic counts (AC-h), an intermediate condition between carcinoid and LCNEC. A 27-year-old man underwent surgery for an anterior mediastinal mass and was diagnosed with thymic LCNEC.

Effectiveness of active occupational therapy in patients with acute stroke: A propensity score-weighted retrospective study.

Background And Purpose: The effects of therapy and patient characteristics on rehabilitation outcomes in patients with acute stroke are unclear. We investigated the effects of intensive occupational therapy (OT) on patients with acute stroke.

Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study using the 2005-2016 Japan Rehabilitation Database, from which we identified patients with stroke ( = 10,270) who were admitted to acute care hospitals ( = 37).
