Short-range and long-range contacts are important in forming protein structure. The proteins can be grouped into four different structural classes according to the content and topology of alpha-helices and beta-strands, and there are all-alpha, all-beta, alpha/beta and alpha+beta proteins. However, there is much difference in statistical property for those classes of proteins.

A combined bioelectrochemical and sulfur autotrophic denitrification process for drinking water treatment was put forward and investigated extensively in this paper. In this new process, the bioelectrochemical denitrification was carried out in the upper part of the reactor while sulfur denitrification in the lower part. The H+ produced in Sulfur Part could be consumed by hydrogen denitrification in Bioelectrochemical Part.

Novel 5-cyclopropyl-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-ones as potent and selective I(Ks)-blocking class III antiarrhythmic agents.

Novel 5-cyclopropyl-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-ones having various N-l substituents were identified as potent and selective blockers of the slowly activating cardiac delayed rectifier potassium current (I(Ks)). Compound 11 is the most potent I(Ks) channel blocker reported to date.

Comparison of prevalence for paraumbilical vein patency in patients with viral and alcoholic liver cirrhosis.

Objectives: The patent paraumbilical vein (PUV) is a venous collateral that is often found in patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension. It can be effectively demonstrated by conventional ultrasonography (US). We conducted this prospective study to elucidate the prevalence and etiology of PUV patency for cirrhotic patients.

Effects of macrophytes and external carbon sources on nitrate removal from groundwater in constructed wetlands.

Several microcosm wetlands unplanted and planted with five macrophytes (Phragmites australis, Commelina communis, Penniserum purpureum, Ipomoea aquatica, and Pistia stratiotes) were employed to remove nitrate from groundwater at a concentration of 21-47 mg NO3-N/l. We have measured the charge asymmetry in like-sign dilepton yields from B(0)B*(0) meson decays using the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. We find a(0)(ll) identical with[N(l(+)l(+))-N(l(-)l(-))]/[N(l(+)l(+))+N(l(-)l(-))] = +0.013+/-0.
