Manganese (Mn), abundant in the Earth's crust, can act as an oxidant or a reductant for diverse nitrogen biotransformation processes. However, the functional microorganisms and their metabolic pathways, as well as interactions, remain largely elusive. Here, a microbial consortium was enriched from a mixture of freshwater sediments and activated sludge by feeding ammonium, nitrate and Mn(II), which established manganese-driven co-removal of nitrate and ammonium with removal rates of 5.

Methods: In January 2024, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were queried for the phrase "Platelet-Rich Plasma Knee Osteoarthritis." Included studies were RCTs investigating PRP use in knee OA published in English between 2012 and 2023.
Diverse exogenous nitrogen (N) sources have a considerable impact on microbial community structure in terrestrial ecosystems. Legume plants and N deposition can relieve N limitations and increase net primary productivity. However, the differences in their effects on soil microbial communities remain unclear.

Methods: In this study, we used imaging mass cytometry (IMC) to assess the spatial heterogeneity of MIBC microenvironment across 185 regions of interest in 40 tissue samples.
Background: Mechanosensitive Piezo1 channel plays a key role in pulmonary hypertension (PH). However, the role of Piezo2 in PH remains unclear.
Methods: Endothelial cell (EC)-specific knockout (, Tek-Cre; ) rats and primarily cultured pulmonary microvascular ECs were used to determine the role of Piezo2 in PH.
Activation of HO cleavage for H* production by defect engineering eliminates the insufficient supply of protons in the NORR process under neutral conditions. However, it remains challenging to precisely control the defect formation for optimizing the equilibrium between H* production and H* binding. Here, we propose a strategy to boost defect generation through S-doping induced NiFe-LDH lattice distortion, and successfully optimize the balance of H* production and binding.

Antigen presentation on MHC class I (MHC-I) is crucial for the adaptive immune response to cancer cells, necessitating highly predictive computational methods to model this phenomenon. Here, we introduce HLApollo, a transformer-based model for peptide-MHC-I (pMHC-I) presentation prediction, leveraging the language of peptides, MHC, and source proteins.

Anaerobic ammonium oxidation coupled with Fe(III) reduction (Feammox) is an essential process in the geochemical iron and nitrogen cycling. This study explores Feammox-based nitrogen removal in a continuous laboratory up-flow bioreactor stimulated by intermittently adding 5 mM Fe(OH) at intervals of approximately two months. The feed was synthetic wastewater with a relatively low ammonium concentration (∼100 mg N/L), yet without organic carbon in order to test its autotrophic nitrogen removal performance.

The inhibition of nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) remains as the most significant challenge for its development. In our investigation, we proposed a novel process to integrate carriers to MABR (CMABR), which combined the carriers enriched with anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing bacteria (AnAOB) and partial nitrifying MABR system.

Design: A retrospective analysis comparing two groups: (a) PGT-A group: women who chose PGT-A and subsequent single re-warmed embryo transfers and (b) non-PGT-A group: women who chose not to genetically test their embryos and underwent subsequent fresh or re-warmed embryo transfers of one to two embryos on days 3 or 5.
Subjects: Two hundred thirty patients underwent PGT-A therapy, with 49 of these individuals undergoing more than one PGT-A cycle.
Microplastics, defined as minuscule plastic particles measuring less than five millimeters (5 mm) in size, have become pervasive in various environments. Watershed areas, perpetually subjected to escalating human activities, face a growing and persistent threat from microplastic pollution. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics and ecological risk posed by microplastic pollution in the Houxi River watershed of Xiamen.

Here, we generated a metagenome-assembled genome inventory for children (MAGIC) from a large collection of bulk and viral-like particle-enriched metagenomes from 0 to 7 years of age, encompassing 3,299 prokaryotic and 139,624 viral species-level genomes, 8.5% and 63.

However, the extent to which lifestyle coaching design influences patient engagement and program effectiveness is unknown. This study retrospectively analysed several engagement markers and weight loss percentage over 16 weeks in a large semaglutide-supported DWLS in the UK (n=154).

Microbial nitrification is a recognized strategy for stabilizing urine ammonia into ammonium nitrate, a common fertilizer worldwide, but faces a core bottleneck of process instability due to microbial inhibition. This study reports a new approach by developing a hybrid oxidation process involving three stages-microbial ammonia oxidation, chemical nitrite oxidation and microbial nitrite oxidation.

Methods: We performed a multicenter, open-label, randomized trial in China, involving patients with symptomatic nonacute subdural hematoma with mass effect. Patients were assigned to undergo burr-hole drainage or receive nonsurgical treatment at the surgeon's discretion, and patients in each group were then randomly assigned, in a 1:1 ratio, to undergo middle meningeal artery embolization with liquid embolic material or to receive usual care.
Purpose: To identify the return-to-sport (RTS) rate in athletes undergoing a Latarjet procedure while outlining the specific reasons for failure to RTS.
Methods: An electronic literature search was conducted (PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science). Studies in peer-reviewed journals with Latarjet procedures performed on athletes that reported rates and reasons for failure to RTS were included.
Dissolved methane is a hurdle for anaerobic wastewater treatment, which would be stripped into the atmosphere by conventional bubble aeration and increase the release of greenhouse gases into the environment. The high oxygen transfer efficiency and less turbulence in membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) could prevent the stripping of dissolved methane. In this study, an MABR was established to remove dissolved methane aerobically in parallel to the nitrogen removal driven by the anammox process.

This study investigates the relative perceptual distinction of the [n] vs [l] contrast in different vowel contexts ([_a] vs [_i]) and tonal contexts (high-initial such as HH, HL, vs low-initial such as LL, LH). The results of two speeded AX discrimination experiments indicated that a [n-l] contrast is perceptually more distinct in the [_a] context and with a high-initial tone. The results are consistent with the typology of the [n] vs [l] contrast across Chinese dialects, which is more frequently observed in the [_a] context and with a high-initial tone, supporting a connection between phonological typology and perceptual distinctiveness.
