In this study, we prepared antifog hard coatings by heating a mixture of carboxy-functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS-C) and oligo(ethylene glycol)s (OEGs, HO(CHCHO) H, = 1-6) in ,-dimethylformamide, applying the mixture onto a glass substrate, and subsequently removing the solvent via heating. In addition, we evaluated the water resistance, hardness, and antifogging performance of the coatings. In particular, the coating produced at a 2:1 functional group ratio of POSS-C to tetraethylene glycol (OEG, = 4) coating exhibited high surface hardness (6H), as determined using pencil scratch testing.

Background: This trial aimed to assess the efficacy, acceptability, and safety of a first-trimester screen-and-prevent strategy for preterm preeclampsia in Asia.

Methods: Between August 1, 2019, and February 28, 2022, this multicenter stepped wedge cluster randomized trial included maternity/diagnostic units from 10 regions in Asia. The trial started with a period where all recruiting centers provided routine antenatal care without study-related intervention.

Extraction of Rh from hydrochloric acid is conducted using NTAamide(C6) (N,N,N´,N´,N´´,N´´-hexahexyl-nitrilotriacetamide) and other related compounds. We use the ion-pair extraction of anionic species of Rh-chloride and protonated extractant. Rh ions exist as Rh(Cl)(HO) (n ≤ 5) and the tertiary nitrogen atom in an extractant are protonated to produce a quaternary amine in acidic condition.

Background: The clinical features of asthma with connective tissue diseases (CTDs) are not well-known. This study therefore aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics of asthma with CTDs.

Methods: We retrospectively examined the records of adults (≥18 years old) with asthma followed up between January 2010 and December 2019.

Hydrogen sulfide, hydropersulfides, and hydropolysulfides have been revealed to play important physiological roles such as cell signaling and protection against oxidative stress, but the underlying mechanisms and dynamics of action remain elusive. It is generally accepted that these species act by two-electron redox mechanisms, while the involvement of one-electron redox chemistry has received less attention. In this study, the radical-scavenging activity of hydrogen persulfide, hydrogen polysulfides (HSH  = 2-4), and diallyl- or dialkyl-sulfides (RSR,  = 1-4) was measured.

To reveal optimal antibiotic prophylactic regimen for postoperative endophthalmitis (POE), we conducted systematic review and network meta-analysis. A total of 51 eligible original articles, including two randomized controlled trials, were identified. In total, 4502 POE cases occurred in 6,809,732 eyes (0.

Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. It is advisable to select the appropriate treatment based on characteristics of the cancer such as pathology, mutations, and programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) levels. In this study, by remarking squamous NSCLC with low PD-L1 expression without mutations, we investigated the efficacy and safety of regimens that included molecularly targeted drugs such as immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) through a network meta-analysis.

Purpose: To determine distinguishing features of the clinical characteristics of anterior uveitis (AU) caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV), varicella-zoster virus (VZV), and cytomegalovirus (CMV).

Design: Retrospective, multicenter case series.

Methods: Consecutive patients with herpetic AU examined at 11 tertiary centers in Japan between January 2012 and December 2017 and who were followed for ≥3 months were evaluated.

Background: Coronary artery abnormalities (CAAs) still occur in patients with Kawasaki disease receiving intensified treatment with corticosteroids. We aimed to determine the risk factors of CAA development and resistance to intensified treatment in Post RAISE (Prospective Observational Study on Stratified Treatment With Immunoglobulin Plus Steroid Efficacy for Kawasaki Disease)-the largest prospective cohort of Kawasaki disease patients to date.

Methods: In Post RAISE, 2648 consecutive patients with Kawasaki disease were enrolled.

Current immunohistochemistry methods for diagnosing abnormal cells, such as cancer cells, require multiple steps and can be relatively slow compared with intraoperative frozen hematoxylin and eosin staining, and are therefore rarely used for intraoperative examination. Thus, there is a need for novel rapid detection methods. We previously demonstrated that functionalized fluorescent ferrite beads (FF beads) magnetically promoted rapid immunoreactions.

Case: Stress fractures of the first rib rarely have been reported in association with sports activities. We report a case of a cerebellar infarction that possibly was associated with arterial thoracic outlet syndrome (aTOS) that developed as a result of extensive callus formation in a young baseball player with a stress fracture of the first rib.

Conclusion: According to the literature, almost all cases of stress fracture in the first rib have a relatively good prognosis, and there are only a few reports of TOS occurring as a rare late complication.

Plasmodium rhoptry neck protein 2 (RON2), which is released from the neck portion of the merozoite rhoptries and interacts with the microneme protein Apical Membrane Antigen 1 (AMA1), plays a crucial role in erythrocyte invasion. In this study, we sequenced the Plasmodium vivax RON2 gene from 19 P. vivax isolates collected in central China in order to establish whether this protein is under positive diversifying selection, which may occur as a result of protective host immune pressure†.

We reevaluate the absolute fluorescence and phosphorescence quantum yields of standard solutions by using a novel instrument developed for measuring the absolute emission quantum yields of solutions. The instrument consists of an integrating sphere equipped with a monochromatized Xe arc lamp as the light source and a multichannel spectrometer. By using a back-thinned CCD (BT-CCD) as the detector, the sensitivity for spectral detection in both the short and long wavelength regions is greatly improved compared with that of an optical detection system that uses a conventional photodetector.
