Rural Versus Urban Genitourinary Cancer Incidence and Mortality in Pennsylvania: 1990-2019.

Our aim was to describe the incidence and mortality of genitourinary (GU) cancers in rural and urban Pennsylvania counties. We calculated age-adjusted incidence and mortality rates of GU (prostate, bladder, and kidney) cancers from 1990 to 2019 in the Pennsylvania Cancer Registry. We defined rurality using the Center for Rural Pennsylvania's population density-based definition.

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection versus conventional in vitro fertilization in infertile couples with normal total sperm count and motility: does sperm morphology matter?

Study Question: Among couples with infertility and normal total sperm count and motility, can sperm morphology be used as a biomarker to identify couples who benefit more from ICSI over conventional IVF (c-IVF) on fertility outcomes?

Summary Answer: Based on this secondary analysis of a large randomized clinical trial (RCT), sperm morphology has limited value as a biomarker to identify couples who benefit more from ICSI over c-IVF on live birth, ongoing pregnancy, clinical pregnancy or total fertilization failure.

What Is Known Already: Our recent RCT showed that ICSI did not result in higher live birth rates in couples with normal total sperm count and motility. It is unclear whether sperm morphology can be used as a biomarker to identify couples who benefit more from ICSI over c-IVF in this population.

Impact of hematocrit levels on the accuracy of specific blood glucose meters: A hospital-based study.

Aims/introduction: Blood glucose meters are commonly used at the bedside, but most of the meters used in Hung Vuong Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) are built for self-monitoring and might not be suitable for determining glucose levels in patients. In this study, we aimed to validate the performance of six frequently used meters in our hospital using the Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standard, and investigate the hematocrit impact on the accuracy of these meters.

Hamartoma of mature cardiac myocytes (HMCM) is a rare, benign cardiac tumor. We report a case of a 19-year-old female with an atypical presentation, including significant weight loss and abnormal electrocardiogram. A transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) revealed a mass causing left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction, confirmed by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging showing a 5 x 3 cm mass contiguous with the right ventricular free wall and exhibiting heterogeneous, diffuse late gadolinium enhancement.

Retroperitoneal laparoscopic partial nephrectomy with selective renal artery clamping for renal cell carcinoma: initial outcomes.

Introduction: To explore the feasibility and safety of retroperitoneal laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (RLPN) with selective artery clamp (SAC) in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

Methods: The authors recruited three men and two women who underwent RLPN for T1 RCC between December 2022 and May 2023 at a tertiary hospital. The median age of the patients was 32 years (range, 25-70 years).

There is a paucity of data on the longer-term effect of the pandemic on stroke volumes over the course of a year and through the second wave of the pandemic. We sought to measure the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the volumes of stroke admissions, intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), IVT, and mechanical thrombectomy over a 1-year period at the onset of the pandemic (March 1, 2020, to February 28, 2021) compared with the immediately preceding year (March 1, 2019, to February 29, 2020).

What Is Known Already: The POSEIDON criteria aim to underline differences related to a poor or suboptimal treatment outcome in terms of oocyte quality and quantity among patients undergoing IVF/ICSI, and thus, create more homogenous groups for the clinical management of infertility and research. POSEIDON patients are presumed to be at a higher risk of failing to achieve a live birth after IVF/ICSI treatment than normal responders with an adequate ovarian reserve.
