The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the necessity for rapid and adaptable drug screening platforms against live pathogenic viruses that require high levels of biosafety containment. Conventional antiviral testing is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Here, we outline the design and validation of a semi-automated drug-screening platform for SARS-CoV-2 that utilizes multiple liquid handlers, a stable A549 cell line expressing ACE2 and TMPRSS2 receptors, and a recombinant SARS-CoV-2 strain harboring the nano-luciferase gene.

The imposter phenomenon (IP) is a destructive set of beliefs, traits, and experiences in which high-achieving individuals fail to internalize their accomplishments and falsely perceive themselves as frauds. IP is a function of underrepresentation and contributes to and perpetuates a cycle of low self-worth, perfectionism, and anxiety, all of which negatively affect job performance and reinforce the IP cycle. Mitigating the deleterious effects of IP requires first naming this phenomenon and recognizing the patterns of IP.

The functional performance of a particulate thin film depends greatly on the particle distribution that forms during drying. In situ methods for monitoring the impact of different processing parameters on the distribution of particles currently require expensive and specialized equipment. This work addresses this gap by miniaturizing a geophysical prospecting method to thin-film applications.

The CRISPR/Cas9 system has transformed genome editing by enabling precise modifications for diverse applications. Recent advancements, including base editing and prime editing, have expanded its utility beyond conventional gene knock-out and knock-in strategies. Additionally, several catalytically dead Cas9 (dCas9) proteins fused to distinct activation domains have been developed to modulate endogenous gene expression when directed to their regulatory regions by specific single-guide RNAs.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The rapid development of highly effective vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 has altered the trajectory of the pandemic, and antiviral therapeutics have further reduced the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths. Coronaviruses are enveloped, positive-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses that encode various structural and non-structural proteins, including those critical for viral RNA replication and evasion from innate immunity.
