Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a multifactorial disease of the respiratory system which develops as a result of a complex interaction of genetic and environmental factors closely related to lifestyle. We aimed to assess the combined effect of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway (PIK3R1, AKT1, MTOR, PTEN) and sirtuin (SIRT1, SIRT3, SIRT6) genes to COPD risk. SNPs of SIRT1 (rs3758391, rs3818292), SIRT3 (rs3782116, rs536715), SIRT6 (rs107251), AKT1 (rs2494732), PIK3R1 (rs10515070, rs831125, rs3730089), MTOR (rs2295080, rs2536), PTEN (rs701848, rs2735343) genes were genotyped by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) among 1245 case and control samples.

The diffusion properties and hydrodynamic radius, , of macromolecules are important for theoretical studies and practical application. Moreover, comparison of values obtained from simulation and experimental data is used to check the correctness of simulation results. Here, we study the translation mobility of poly(butylcarbosilane) dendrimers in chloroform solution using molecular dynamics simulations and consider simulation details that may influence the accuracy of the result.

A series of new 1,3-thiazole derivatives of maleopimaric acid , were synthesized and evaluated for anticancer, antibacterial and antifungal activities. Evaluation of cytotoxic activity against human embryonic kidney 293 cells (HEK293), human neuroblastoma cell line (SH-SY5Y), hepatocellular carcinoma cell line (HepG2) and human T-cell lymphoblast-like line (Jurkat), showed that introduction of the aminothiazole fragment at position 6 of the diterpenoid molecule leads to decrease of cell viability. Substance 3 was found to be the most active against all tested cell lines, inhibiting cell viability with IC values in the range of 2-24 μM.

This paper presents the study of the expression of genes related to cell cycle control, apoptosis, and oxidative stress in a model of carbon tetrachloride-induced toxic hepatitis in rats.

The cyclopropyliminium and subsequent Grandberg rearrangements of cyclopropylketone hydrozones lead to the formation of tryptamines, which were additionally substituted at either the aromatic ring atoms or the amino group. The products were tested for their cytotoxic properties against HepG2, Jurkat and HEK293 cell lines using MTT assay. The highest activity as well as the highest selectivity was found amongst the compounds derived with one benzyl substituent at the amino group.
