Paternal exposure to environmental challenges is critical for the offspring's future health, and the transmission of acquired traits through generations increases the risk of offspring developing diseases. Ivermectin (IVM) is widely used in veterinary and human medicine to treat parasitosis. Our previous studies showed that IVM acute administration induced disorganization of the germinal epithelium and could cause damage to sperm production.

Epidemic curves and the profile of patients hospitalized by COVID-19 in a border region.

Objective: to describe the epidemic curves and analyze the epidemiological profile of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in a triple border city.

Method: descriptive-quantitative. The population consisted of COVID-19 cases that required hospitalization, analyzing variables such as: age, gender, race/color, city where they lived, occupation, pregnant woman, institutionalized patient and evolution.

In Vitro Synergistic Activity of Rifampicin Combined with Minimal Effective Antibiotic Concentration (MEAC) of Polymyxin B Against Extensively Drug-Resistant, Carbapenem-, and Polymyxin B-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae Clinical Isolates.

We investigated the in vitro antibacterial activity of the combination rifampicin (RIF) + polymyxin B (PB) against extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates. We evaluated clinical isolates co-resistant to PB (non-mcr carriers; eptB, mgrB, pmr operon, and ramA mutations) and to carbapenems (KPC, CTX-M, and SHV producers; including KPC + NDM co-producer), belonging to sequence types (ST) ST16, ST11, ST258, ST340, and ST437. We used the standard broth microdilution method to determine RIF and PB minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the checkerboard assay to evaluate the fractional inhibitory concentration index (FICI) of RIF + PB as well as to investigate the lowest concentrations of RIF and PB that combined (RIF + PB) had antibacterial activity.

Skin injuries in newborns hospitalized in neonatal intensive care: a cross-sectional study.

Objective: To analyze the skin injuries of hospitalized newborns and identify factors related to the number of lesions.

Method: This was a cross-sectional epidemiological study carried out over a period of one year in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the west of Paraná. The study included 74 newborns with a score ≥5 on the Newborn Skin Condition Scale.
