Background/objectives: The Dutch guidelines for a healthy diet aim to reduce major chronic diseases. However, supporting evidence on their overall association with all-cause and cause-specific mortality is limited. Recently, the Dutch Healthy Diet-index (DHD-index) has been developed to assess adherence to these guidelines.

Background: Malnutrition is an important cause of the excessive morbidity and mortality rate of dialysis patients. Frequent nocturnal home hemodialysis (NHHD) has many benefits compared with conventional thrice-weekly hemodialysis (CHD), due to the virtual absence of dietary restrictions and a much higher overall dialysis efficiency. In this observational study, we investigated whether these benefits of NHHD translate into an improved nutritional intake, with a special emphasis on protein intake.

Intracellular degradation of C-peptides in molluscan neurons producing insulin-related hormones.

Single Light Green Cells (LGC) of Lymnaea stagnalis, expressing four genes encoding insulin-related peptides (MIPs) and C-peptides, and sections from the median lip nerve (MLN) were subjected to MALDI-MS. Mass spectra of LGCs and MLNs were almost identical. Masses corresponding to those of the MIPs and some C alpha-peptides could be distinguished.
