Background: The antisense oligonucleotide against APOC3 mRNA volanesorsen was recently introduced to treat Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome (FCS). Cases of decreased platelet count are reported among patients treated with volanesorsen. The aim of the study was to evaluate platelet function and thrombin generation (TG) assessment in FCS patients receiving volanesorsen.

Lipoprotein(a) Where Do We Stand? From the Physiopathology to Innovative Terapy.

A number of epidemiologic studies have demonstrated a strong association between increasing lipoprotein a [Lp(a)] and cardiovascular disease. This correlation was demonstrated independent of other known cardiovascular (CV) risk factors. Screening for Lp(a) in the general population is not recommended, although Lp(a) levels are predominantly genetically determined so a single assessment is needed to identify patients at risk.

The most frequently tested aPL are lupus anticoagulant (LA), anti-cardiolipin antibodies (aCL), and anti-β2-glycoprotein I antibodies (anti-β2GPI). aPL play a key pathogenic role in the development of the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by recurrent thrombotic and/or pregnancy complications in patients with persistent aPL.

Meat from cattle slaughtered without stunning sold in the conventional market without appropriate labelling: A case study in Italy.

In the European Union, slaughter without stunning is allowed for religious slaughter to obtain halal and kosher meat. Especially in the case of Jewish slaughtering, cuts which are not deemed as kosher are sold to regular market without any specific labelling. This survey, conducted in Tuscany in 2016, aimed to quantify the carcasses rejected in relation to the type of religious slaughter.

Large scale retail industry and catering industry are characterized by the widespread presence of several risk factors of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD): repetitive movements, incongruous postures and manual handling tasks. We reviewed current epidemiological evidence related to musculoskeletal disorders within these two sectors, distinguishing between symptoms and clinically documented disorders. In retail industry cashier is the most investigated figure, regarding upper limbs disorders as a consequence of repetitive tasks.
