We studied the features of hydrolytic degradation of polylactic acid (PLLA) implants depending on their structural filling with hydroxyapatite (HA). The resistance to in vitro hydrolysis was tested for the following samples: PLLA without HA (control; group 1), PLLA/HA 25 wt% (group 2), and PLLA/HA 50 wt% (group 3). Samples were incubated at 37°C.

Concentrations of insulin-like growth factors 1 and 2 (IGF-1 and IGF-2), stem cell factor (SCF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) were measured in the blood serum of dogs subjected to experimental lengthening of shin bones. In animals subjected to shin bone lengthening at a rate of 1 mm/day in 4 steps, the concentrations of SCF and TGF-β1 significantly increased in the middle of distraction and IGF-1 concentration increased by the end of distraction. In animals subjected to lengthening at a rate of 1.

The results of conservative treatment with the use of hirudotherapy of patients presenting with bilateral gonarthrosis were evaluated by biochemical analysis of their serum and urine samples. The study revealed changes of mineral, carbohydrate, and lipid metabolism suggestive of the positive homeostatic effect of hirudotherapy at the local and systemic levels. This finding gives reason to recommend hirudotherapy for the treatment and prevention of osteoarthrosis.
