This study sought to determine the need for, and use of, professional interpreters in general practice. This is a sub-study of the Bettering the Evaluation and Care of Health (BEACH) program - a continuous, national, cross-sectional survey of Australian general practitioner (GP) activity. Background: One Health addresses complex challenges to promote the health of all species and the environment by integrating relevant sciences at systems level. Its application to zoonotic diseases is recommended, but few coherent frameworks exist that combine approaches from multiple disciplines. Rabies requires an interdisciplinary approach for effective and efficient management.

Companion animal medicine has now gained prominence in Sri Lanka as a result of an increased public interest in pets; however, veterinary education has not kept pace with current developments. The main constraints faced by the veterinary education system are those common to all university education in Sri Lanka. The protein tyrosine kinase, pp60(c-)(src), is involved in cellular signaling and is activated during mitosis and in various tumors. We have been employing cyclic decapeptides to identify the determinants for substrate binding and phosphorylation to develop inhibitors competitive with protein substrates of Src. The conversion of a peptide substrate to a potent inhibitor by chemical modification is a promising approach in the development of inhibitors for protein tyrosine kinases. N-acylation of the synthetic peptide substrate NH2-Glu-Phe-Leu-Tyr-Gly-Val-Phe-Asp-CONH2 (EFLYGVFD) resulted in synergistic inhibition of Src protein kinase activity that was greater than the inhibition by either free peptide and/or free acyl group. Synergistic inhibition was dependent upon the peptide sequence and the length of the acyl chain.
