Physical Examination for the Detection of Pulmonary Hypertension: A Systematic Review.

We performed a systematic review to determine whether the physical examination can reliably assist in the diagnostic approach for patients suspected of having pulmonary hypertension (PH). Using dual extraction, two investigators independently searched PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and Embase for studies that compared physical examination findings with a right heart catheterization, from inception until July 10, 2021. We obtained data from four studies that evaluated physical examination findings in patients receiving a right heart catheterization to diagnose PH.

Characterization of pneumonia and other factors leading to poorer survival across all age groups in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Background: Lung cancer death rates and incidence in both men and women have decreased over the past two decades. However, certain subsets of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have arisen with poor outcomes. Identifying factors which contribute to poorer outcomes as well as those that inform early detection strategies remain unmet needs.

Implantable Drug Reservoir Devices for Inner Ear Delivery of Pharmacotherapeutics.

Objective: Cisplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic drug that secondarily induces toxicity in inner ear sensory epithelia, contributing to auditory and vestibular dysfunction. We describe the creation of a drug reservoir device (DRD) to combat this ototoxicity for the duration of chemotherapy. As ototoxic side effects of chemotherapy may limit an oncologist's ability to prescribe first-line agents such as cisplatin, mitigating such devastating effects through prolonged topical therapy would be tremendously valuable.

Combined endoscopic and intra-oral approach for chronic maxillary sinusitis of dental origin-a prospective clinical study.

Aims And Objectives: The traditional Caldwell-Luc approach for maxillary diseases has been criticized for its shortcomings such as removal of a large amount of bone, numbness of the teeth, flap dehiscence, and recurrent sinusitis. On account of its minimal invasiveness and physiological approach, functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) has come to replace the Caldwell-Luc approach for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis. Chronic maxillary sinusitis of dental origin (CMSDO) is a less common variant on the chronic rhinosinusitis spectrum whose treatment involves simultaneous management of both the diseased maxillary sinus and the dental source of infection.

A working paradigm for managing mandibular fractures under regional anesthesia.

Objectives: Isolated mandibular fractures contribute to approximately 45% of maxillofacial traumas. Improper management of mandibular fractures can cause myriad potential complications and can lead to serious functional and aesthetic sequelae. The objective of the study is to design a stepwise approach for managing isolated mandibular fractures using open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with regional anesthesia on outpatient basis.
