Investigation of occupational radiation exposure during interventional cardiac catheterisations performed via radial artery.

The purpose of this study was to determine the thyroid, sternum and hand radiation doses of radiologists who perform angiographies and angioplasties via the radial artery. Staff radiation dose was estimated for 21 cardiac interventional catheterisations. Thermoluminescence dosemeters (TLDs) were used to determine radiation dose for each procedure at the right and left wrist, at the sternum and the thyroid.

Coronary fistula from left main stem to main pulmonary artery.

We describe a patient with a rare coronary arteriovenous fistula connecting the left main stem to the main pulmonary artery. This rare case was discovered during routine coronary angiography for the evaluation of the patient s coronary heart disease.

Pulmonary capillary endothelial dysfunction in early systemic sclerosis.

Objective: Pulmonary capillary endothelium-bound angiotensin-converting enzyme (PCEB-ACE) activity is a sensitive and quantifiable index of endothelial function in vivo. Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is characterized by endothelial damage and excess collagen formation, causing mainly pulmonary hypertension (PH) in the limited cutaneous SSc (lcSSc) subset and interstitial lung disease with pulmonary interstitial fibrosis (PIF) in the diffuse cutaneous SSc (dcSSc) subset. This study was undertaken to investigate the hypothesis that PCEB-ACE activity is reduced early in SSc, in the absence of PH or PIF.

The brachial approach for intracoronary stent implantation.

Aggressive anticoagulation after intracoronary stent implantation leads to an increased incidence of femoral hematomas and vascular complications. Out of 74 Medtronic Wiktor stent implantations, six were performed via right brachial artery cut-down. All six attempts were successful without stent closure, bleeding or vascular complications.
