Conservative management of Gradenigo's syndrome in a child.

Gradenigo's syndrome, the triad of suppurative otitis media, abducens nerve palsy and pain in the ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve, remains a rare complication of otitis media. A case in a paediatric patient is described, successfully managed conservatively. There is little evidence to support increased use of antibiotics in acute otitis media to prevent this complication.

A cross-sectional study of ultrasound estimated bladder weight in a sample of men and women without lower urinary tract symptoms.

Aims: A non-invasive ultrasound method of estimating bladder weight (UEBW) has been proposed as diagnostic for outflow tract obstruction and detrusor overactivity in men and women. There are no data on asymptomatic men and women. This study aimed to examine the relationship between UEBW, age, height, body mass index (BMI), and body surface area (BSA).

Primitive neuroectodermal tumour of the tongue.

Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumours, which belong to the Ewing sarcoma tumour family, are extremely rare. These tumours are highly aggressive and are known to have a poor prognosis. Immunostaining with at least two neural markers and evidence of an abnormal t(11;22)(q24;q12) translocation are hallmark features in this diagnosis.

Pneumomediastinum, an unusual complication of facial trauma.

Pneumomediastinum is often an incidental finding following a blunt or penetrating trauma to the neck or chest. We report a rare case of pneumomediastinum following an isolated facial trauma that was diagnosed on imaging. We also review the clinical signs of this condition, its radiologic characteristics, and the 18 previously reported cases of pneumomediastinum following facial trauma.

Endovascular embolization of a traumatic arteriovenous fistula of the superficial temporal artery.

Arteriovenous fistula of the superficial temporal artery is a rare condition most commonly caused by trauma. Traditional surgical treatment has been superseded by endovascular embolization. We present the case of a 40 year-old man with a traumatic arteriovenous fistula of the superficial temporal artery who was treated by endovascular embolization.
