Oncology has become one of the most influential and studied areas in both human and companion animal health. In veterinary practice, cancer represents a significant challenge, especially concerning cats and dogs. Nutrition plays a crucial role in the management of oncology patients in veterinary medicine; however, is often nonspecific and reliant on data from other species and diseases, highlighting the need for a comprehensive review of the latest developments in this field.

Modified vermiculite as a sorbent phase for stir-bar sorptive extraction.

Background: The presence of emerging contaminants (ECs) is a cause of great concern nowadays, and they are present at very low concentrations in surface waters, requiring a preconcentration process for their reliable quantification. The technique of Stir-Bar Sorptive Extraction (SBSE) is a valuable tool for achieving this purpose, and different sorbents have been developed to produce the bars. In this sense, we propose the use of the clay mineral vermiculite (Vt), modified with alkylammonium salts, aiming the determination of the ECs: bisphenol A, diclofenac, ibuprofen and triclosan in surface water samples.

Understanding Impacts on Zebrafish Gamete Viability.

This study aimed to evaluate the viability of gametes in zebrafish (), at different stages. Viability assessments were conducted on oocytes at various developmental stages using LIVE/DEAD and the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) reduction assay. For sperm evaluation, both kinetic (computer-assisted sperm analysis) and morphological assessments (Rose Bengal staining) were performed.

New Promising Steroidal Aromatase Inhibitors with Multi-Target Action on Estrogen and Androgen Receptors for Breast Cancer Treatment.

Endocrine therapies that comprise anti-estrogens and aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are the standard treatment for estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) (Luminal A) breast cancer-the most prevalent subtype. However, the emergence of resistance restricts their success by causing tumor relapse and re-growth, which demands a switch towards other therapeutic approaches in order to minimize or overcome resistance. Indeed, this clinical limitation highlights the search for new molecules to improve cancer treatment.

Objective: this study assessed the association between serum 25(OH)D concentrations and anthropometric indicators of adiposity in people living with HIV/AIDS taking highly active antiretroviral therapy.

Methods: the study included 244 people living with HIV/AIDS who received outpatient care at the Institute of Tropical Diseases in the city of Teresina, Brazil. Sociodemographic, clinical, anthropometric and laboratory characteristics were examined.
