Habitat selection plays a fundamental role in determining community structure and species coexistence, although the role played by sexual selection in shaping settlement patterns is less well understood. Manakins (Pipridae) are a Neotropical family of lekking birds that exhibit similar behavioral ecology across species, both in terms of resource use and dependence on elaborate visual signaling for mate attraction, yet they differ in the form of their sexually selected displays and ornaments. We characterized and compared the spatial dispersion and habitat attributes of lek sites for four species of sympatric manakins in the Chocó region of northwestern Ecuador to test several hypotheses for habitat selection and lek dispersion.

Background: Web-based cognitive behavioral therapy (wb-CBT) is a scalable way to reach distressed university students. Guided wb-CBT is typically superior to self-guided wb-CBT over short follow-up periods, but evidence is less clear over longer periods.

Objective: This study aimed to compare short-term (3 months) and longer-term (12 months) aggregate effects of guided and self-guided wb-CBT versus treatment as usual (TAU) in a randomized controlled trial of Colombian and Mexican university students and carry out an initially unplanned secondary analysis of the role of differential predicted compliance in explaining these differences.

Background: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is established as an effective treatment for large vessel occlusion strokes, but its efficacy and safety for medium vessel occlusions (MeVOs) remain less clear. This study examines the impact of periprocedural embolization to a new vascular territory (ENT) on clinical outcomes in patients with MeVO stroke treated with MT.

Methods: A multicenter, retrospective analysis was conducted using the MAD-MT (Multicenter Analysis of primary Distal medium vessel occlusions: effect of Mechanical Thrombectomy) registry, including 2122 patients with MeVO stroke w-ho underwent MT between September 2017 and July 2023.

To reconstruct transmission chains of the multidrug-resistant tuberculosis Ch strain, which harbors a unique combination of resistance mutations, we analyzed genomes of 25 isolates from 12 patients with diagnosis during 2006-2022 in Chaco Province, Argentina. Amplification of resistance, high mortality rates, and indications of a wider outbreak raise concerns for surveillance programs.

Background: The diagnosis of congenital Chagas disease in newborns relies on the microhematocrit method which exhibits reduced sensitivity during the early stages of infection and quantitative PCR for , which is applied only in specialised centre due to its technical complexity. Consequently, the majority of congenital transmission cases are confirmed after an extended period of serological monitoring, resulting in delayed treatments and reduced cure rates. The need for new, accurate tests for the timely diagnosis of the disease in newborns is evident.
