Background: Development of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is attributed to the microaspiration of pooled secretions around the cuff of airway devices. Despite the emphasis on the use of endotracheal tubes (ET) with subglottic secretion (SS) drainage ports to prevent VAP, the quality of the evidence for this recommendation remains moderate. This prospective observational study analyzed microbiological concordance between SS and endotracheal aspirate (ETA) cultures to generate further evidence in this regard.

Background: Accurate localization of premacular hemorrhages (PMHs) is crucial as treatment strategies vary significantly based on whether the hemorrhage resides within the vitreous gel, subhyaloid space, or beneath the internal limiting membrane (ILM). This report outlines the clinical features, diagnostic findings, and treatment outcomes in a patient diagnosed with a PMH secondary to suspected Valsalva retinopathy.

Methods: This is a retrospective interventional case report.

Introduction: Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation equations have not been extensively validated in the Indian population. Preliminary data showed that the widely used creatinine-based Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) 2009 significantly overestimated GFR in Indians. Newer estimated GFR (eGFR) equations based on creatinine and cystatin C, omitting the race, have been recently proposed.

Therapeutic strategies targeting the DNA damage response, such as poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors (PARPi), have revolutionized cancer treatment in tumors deficient in homologous recombination (HR). However, overcoming innate and acquired resistance to PARPi remains a significant challenge. Here, we employ a genome-wide CRISPR knockout screen and discover that the depletion of ubiquitin-activating enzyme E1 (UBA1) enhances sensitivity to PARPi in HR-proficient ovarian cancer cells.
