Purpose: Melanoma brain metastases (MBMs) are a common, lethal complication of metastatic melanoma. Despite improvements in treatments, subsets of MBM patients experience rapid decline, and few prognostic biomarkers have been identified. An improved understanding of the molecular features specifically associated with MBM overall survival (OS) and intracranial progression free survival (PFS) could facilitate the development of more effective clinical management strategies.

Article Synopsis
  • Neurosurgical resection can provide significant benefits for breast cancer patients with brain metastases, particularly for those with HER2-positive disease, despite potential delays in systemic therapy.
  • A study analyzed 633 patients with brain metastases from breast cancer to identify outcomes based on breast cancer subtypes, revealing that HER2-positive patients require more subsequent treatments when surgery is omitted.
  • The findings suggest that upfront neurosurgical resection may reduce local recurrence and improve overall treatment outcomes for HER2-positive patients compared to other subtypes, highlighting the need for careful patient selection.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been successfully synthesized using leaf extract of Neem (Azadirachta Indica), Mint (Mentha Piperita), Tulsi (Ocimum Tenuiflorum), Bermuda grass (Cynodon Dactylon) and silver salt. As plant extracts produce best capping material for the stabilization of nanoparticles. AgNPs were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy in range of 200-800 nm and transmission electron microscopy TEM, XRD and FTIR.

Herein, waste-derived copper (Cu) flakes have been used as heterogeneous catalysts for the solvent-free and one-pot reductive acetamidation of nitroarenes. Metallic copper flakes (f-ZCu) were isolated from waste copper Cu scrap/flakes/turnings generated after the grinding and cutting (from the Cu industries). f-ZCu is being used to synthesize acetanilide with a considerable yield (∼82%) in one-step and solvent-free conditions within a reaction time of 6 h.
