Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of aqueous and alcoholic extracts of ginger (zingiber officinale) against hydatid cysts' protoscolices using various concentrations and exposure times.
  • Results showed that higher concentrations (200 mg/mL for aqueous and both 100 mg/mL and 200 mg/mL for alcoholic) were more effective in killing the protoscolices, with a clear relationship between concentration, exposure time, and efficacy.
  • The findings suggest that ginger could be a promising natural anti-protoscolex agent, potentially with minimal side effects.

Background: Dermoscopy is a non-invasive, cost-effective tool useful in the assessment of pigmented lesions. The aim of this study was to analyze the dermoscopic features in excised melanomas in a tertiary hospital in Brazil and the influence of Breslow thickness on the dermoscopic features observed.

Methods: An observational, cross-sectional study in which dermoscopic images of 43 melanomas were evaluated.

Owing to the growing need for natural materials in different fields, studying melanin production from biological sources is imperative. In the current study, the extracellular melanin pigment was produced by the fungus Curvularia soli AS21 ON076460. The factors that affect the production of melanin were optimized by the Plackett-Burman design (P-BD).

In this study, the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method was employed to fabricate nanostructured BaTiO films on glass and silicon substrates at varying temperatures. The structural analysis confirmed the formation of crystalline nanostructured BaTiO with mixed tetragonal and hexagonal phases, and the film deposited at 150 °C has the best crystallinity and largest particle size. The optical energy gap of the BaTiO nanostructure decreases from 3.
