Introduction Dental caries, primarily caused by cariogenic microorganisms, remains a significant global health concern. β-Chitosan, known for its biofilm-targeting properties, and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs), recognized for their potent antimicrobial effects, offer a promising approach for caries prevention and treatment. This study investigates the synthesis, characterization, and antimicrobial properties of β-Chitosan-derived ZnO NPs (β-Ch-ZnO-NPs) against these pathogens.

Globally million hectares of land annually is getting contaminated by heavy metalloids like As, Cd, Cr, Hg, Pb, Co, Cu, Ni, Zn, and Se, with current concentrations in soil above geo-baseline or regulatory standards. The heavy metals are highly toxic, mobile, and persistent and hence require immediate and effective mitigation. There are many available remediation techniques like surface capping, encapsulation, landfilling, soil flushing, soil washing, electrokinetic extraction, stabilization, solidification, vitrification, phytoremediation, and bioremediation which have been evolved to clean up heavy metal-contaminated sites.

Emphysema is one of the major components of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is characterised by the destruction and enlargement of air spaces, leading to airflow limitation and dyspnoea, finally progressing to oxygen dependency. The alveolar wall destruction is due to chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and proteinase/anti-proteinase imbalance. So far, there has been no effective therapy for patients with COPD.

Biosorption is a key phenomenon that has been used to remove the aquatic pollutants like dyes and heavy metals present in industrial effluents. The current study aims at the development of a chitosan-pectinase blend (CPB) to separate the methylene blue (MB) dye from its synthetic solution. Pectinase, an enzyme isolated from a consortium of Bacillus species, is imbibed in the blend.

The present work aims at the characterization of the dust particles in South India through an image analysis of glass samples inclined at a tilt of 0° and 13° for four different exposure periods (approximately 30 to 40 days/exposure period). It aims as well at the study of the different factors influencing the accuracy of the image analysis of dust particles. The analysis of the shape factor reveals that the dust particles on tilted surface (13°) have regular shapes, and irregular shapes are more observed in horizontal surfaces.
