Background: Advanced spark ignition engines require high performance fuels with improved resistance to autoignition. Biologically derived olefinic alcohols have arisen as promising blendstock candidates due to favorable octane numbers and synergistic blending characteristics. However, production and downstream separation of these alcohols are limited by their intrinsic toxicity and high aqueous solubility, respectively.

Accurate calibration of the relative light yield from the newly developed scintillators is crucial to assess merits of compounds and chemical processes used in the scintillators' development. The full energy gamma-ray peak in a measured gamma-ray spectrum is commonly used in calibrating the relative light yield.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA small set of unsymmetrically substituted acene derivatives containing either aniline or dithiocarbamate moieties was synthesized. A stepwise, one-pot procedure was used to transform appropriate acenequinones to aniline-linked acenes in one step with moderate yields. A heretofore-unreported carbon disulfide activation process involving the formation of a trialkylammonium dithiocarbamate intermediate was found to be essential to convert these acene anilines to acene dithiocarbamates.
