Background: Larsucosterol is a DNA methyltransferase inhibitor in development for alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH), a disease for which there is no approved therapy.

Methods: In this phase 2b trial, patients with severe AH were randomly assigned 1:1:1 to receive 30 mg or 90 mg of larsucosterol or placebo; a second dose was administered after 72 hours if the patient remained hospitalized. All patients received supportive care as determined by investigators.

Background: While prior data showed an increasing incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the United States, there are limited comprehensive and comparative data on the geographical variations of HCC trends in different demographic-specific populations.

Aim: To evaluate sex and age-specific incidence rates and time trends in different geographical regions in the United States.

Methods: Age-adjusted HCC incidence rates were collected from the United States Cancer Statistics (USCS) database which covers approximately 98% of the population in the United States.

The lack of health insurance is a major barrier to access to health care, even in the case of life-saving procedures such as liver transplantation (LT). Concerns about worse outcomes in uninsured patients have also discouraged the evaluation and transplantation of patients without adequate health insurance coverage. The aim of this study is to evaluate outcomes from the largest cohort of uninsured patients who underwent LT with the support of a state payment assistance program (also called charity care).

Background: Autoimmune liver diseases (AiLD) encompass a variety of disorders that target either the liver cells (autoimmune hepatitis, AIH) or the bile ducts [(primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC)]. These conditions can progress to chronic liver disease (CLD), which is characterized by fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Recent studies have indicated a rise in hospitalizations and associated costs for CLD in the US, but information regarding inpatient admissions specifically for AiLD remains limited.

Background: Protein-energy malnutrition is associated with poor surgical outcomes in liver transplant patients, but its impact on healthcare use has not been precisely characterized. We sought to quantify the burden of protein-energy malnutrition in hospitalized patients undergoing liver transplantation.

Methods: Current Procedural Terminology codes were used to identify United States hospitalizations between 2011 and 2018 for liver transplantation using the Nationwide Inpatient Sample.
