Analysis of a shark reveals ancient, Wnt-dependent, habenular asymmetries in vertebrates.

The mode of evolution of left-right asymmetries in the vertebrate habenulae remains largely unknown. Using a transcriptomic approach, we show that in a cartilaginous fish, the catshark Scyliorhinus canicula, habenulae exhibit marked asymmetries, in both their medial and lateral components. Comparisons across vertebrates suggest that those identified in lateral habenulae reflect an ancestral gnathostome trait, partially conserved in lampreys, and independently lost in tetrapods and neopterygians.

Discovery of numerous novel Helitron-like elements in eukaryote genomes using HELIANO.

Helitron-like elements (HLEs) are widespread eukaryotic DNA transposons employing a rolling-circle transposition mechanism. Despite their prevalence in fungi, animals, and plant genomes, identifying Helitrons remains a formidable challenge. We introduce HELIANO, a software for annotating and classifying autonomous and non-autonomous HLE sequences from whole genomes.

Severely complicated ear infection in a patient treated with ixekizumab: a case report.

We report a case of a severe ear infection in a 35-year-old man treated with ixekizumab for psoriasis. Ixekizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that selectively prevents the interaction between interleukin 17 A and its receptor. Biologicals like ixekizumab are used to achieve symptom relief in autoimmune diseases including psoriasis.

[The COVID-pandemic and specialist training in Head and Neck oncology: A Survey among Physicians].

Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the healthcare system and medical education. In this publication, the influence of the pandemic on the education of physicians active in Head and Neck oncology was examined using a survey.

Methods: A survey comprising 53 questions was conducted to gather data on work settings, daily activities, team events, and educational aspects during the pandemic.
