Context: Bone metastases from prostate adenocarcinoma usually present osteoblastic characteristics in imaging studies.

Method: Case report.

Results: A 77-year-old patient diagnosed with prostate adenocarcinoma with osteoblastic metastases in the dorsal spine and ribs, empirically treated with decongestants for symptoms associated with nasal polyposis, presented with binocular diplopia and ptosis of the right eyelid.

Platelets contribute to a variety of physiological processes, including inflammation, sepsis, and cancer. However, because of their primary role in hemostasis, platelet transfusions are largely restricted to managing thrombocytopenia and bleeding. One way to expand the utility of platelet transfusions would be to genetically engineer donor platelets with new or enhanced functions.

The current implementation of Pathogen Reduction Technologies (PRTs) offers advantages and disadvantages to transfusion medicine. PRT rollout may significantly reduce the incidence of transfusion-transmitted infections and immune reactions, while offering a 'one-size-fits-all' solution to future pathogens in blood products. However, the decrease in transfusion efficacy of PRT-treated blood products suggests that the demand for blood products may increase, further straining the already limited supply of these cells.

Background: In Argentina, only very few reports are available for canine tick-borne diseases where most are related to parasitic diseases. The objective of this survey was to investigate the prevalence of tick-borne pathogens in 70 dogs from Santa Fé and Córdoba, Argentina.

Methods: Microscopic blood smear examination as well as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification using species-specific markers of Anaplasma, Babesia, Bartonella, Borrelia, Ehrlichia, Francisella, Mycoplasma (hemotropic group) and Rickettsia, followed by DNA sequencing were used to establish the prevalence of each infecting pathogen.
