Neuronal cell death remains the principal pathophysiologic hallmark of neurodegenerative diseases and the main challenge for treatment strategies. Thioredoxin1 (Trx1) is a major cytoplasmic thiol oxidoreductase protein involved in redox signaling, hence a crucial player in maintaining neuronal health. Trx1 levels are notably reduced in neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, however, the impact of this decrease on neuronal physiology remains largely unexplored.

There is an unmet need for the discovery of new, non-invasive biomarkers for differential diagnosis, prognosis, and management of brain tumors. Our objective is to validate four plasma biomarkers - glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), neurofilament light (NEFL), matrix metalloprotease 3 (MMP3) and fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4) - and compare them with established brain tumor molecular markers and survival.

Biomarker concentrations were measured daily for the first 3 days of ECMO support in 95 participants. Unfavorable composite outcome was defined as in-hospital mortality or discharge Pediatric Cerebral Performance Category > 2 with decline ≥ 1 point from baseline.

Patients with gout are frequently concurrently prescribed other medications (such as statins) that may interact with colchicine, increasing the risk of adverse events. The aim of this study was to describe potential prognostic factors for adverse events in patients prescribed colchicine when initiating allopurinol.
