Lichens are composite, symbiotic associations of fungi, algae, and bacteria that result in large, anatomically complex organisms adapted to many of the world's most challenging environments. How such intricate, self-replicating lichen architectures develop from simple microbial components remains unknown because of their recalcitrance to experimental manipulation. Here, we report a metagenomic and metatranscriptomic analysis of the lichen Xanthoria parietina at different developmental stages.

An unusual case of small bowel obstruction (SBO) due to haemostatic gelatin sponge placed during caesarean delivery is presented. A primigravida in their 30s underwent caesarean delivery at 39 weeks, and developed symptoms of SBO from the second postoperative day. Given the worsening condition of the patient and increasing abdominal girth, CT of the abdomen and pelvis was done which revealed features of SBO.

We analyzed the thermal, structural, and dynamic properties of maghemite using classical molecular dynamics, focusing on bulk and nanoparticle systems. We explored their behavior when heated to high temperatures (above the melting point) and during cooling, as well as under thermal cycles ending at intermediate temperatures. Our findings show that in the bulk system, both the tetrahedral and octahedral iron sub-lattices undergo a phase transition prior to melting.

Eukaryotic transcriptomes are remarkably complex, encompassing not only protein-coding RNAs but also an expanding repertoire of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs). In plants, ncRNA-ncRNA interactions (NNIs) have emerged as pivotal regulators of gene expression, orchestrating development and adaptive responses to stress. Despite their critical roles, the functional significance of NNIs remains poorly understood, largely due to a lack of comprehensive resources.
